The guy i sold my m90 kit to was on his way to the shop to get the kit installed when the car overheated and started blowing white smoke. He lives in San Antonio and its a stock 08 GT 5spd with 110K miles. The shop told him to buy a 9 thousand dollar brenspeed 5.0 rated at 700HP to put my m90 kit on. I told him thats retarded and he needs to a rods and pistons build and buy a 1.9 VMP head unit..... what do you guys think? Any engine builders in the texas area? The shop hes having do the work(cantu motor sports) said they wont build aluminum blocks so he'd need to find a builder. Anyways the dudes super nice but seemingly doesnt have much mechanical knowledge or does he use the Internet much at all, but id like to point him in the right direction.

Okay so what's wrong with it? Just b/c it over heated and is blowing white smoke doesn't mean the motor needs to be scraped or rebuilt, it might be, but also might not be. Did this shop diagnose the problem? Even if they did I might suggest a second opinion, checking the obvious stuff i.e. has the coolant level dropped? How about the oil? Compression check, leak down test, pull the valve covers and make sure all the followers are where they're supposed to be, etc. before deciding to drop thousands on another motor. I'm in Florida so I can't be of much help in Texas though.

Overkill by an overactive salesrep at Brand B even if the engine block is toast.

I live in the San Antonio area also. Cantu Motorsports, never heard of them. Can your friend do any of the work himself? If all he needs is an engine builder there are several id trust. Shops, not so much.

+1,000,000 for Tim@MV. I've never had him rebuild an engine but he does great work on everything else so he would be my first choice, too. He's a straight shooter, no BS.

Sounds like a head gasket to me. That would not be the end of the world for a motor, at least at a reputable shop.
