So it's been awhile since I've been here, Been out of the s197 world for awhile, went back to Fox body, built a race car, sold it, bought a 68, decided I didn't want it, sold it, and now I'm back for some info/advice from you guys.

I've been looking at 2012 GT500's for sale. I really want a Shelby and I know the 13's and up have the 5.8, and more HP, but I can't swing the coin on those cars. So, owners, previous owners, tell me the good, bad, and ugly of these cars.

Thanks

Heavy engines mean too much weight over the front wheels, they don't handle all that well. All that power means you spend a lot on tires. And fighting off all that pussy gets old after a while.

I have a 2011 Shelby GT500....very low miles...factory SVT Perf Pkg...love the car. It’s not perfect, but it’s got a boatload of power, gets a lot of attention on the road and retains its value pretty well if you buy it right and keep it mint. I am agree with eighty6gt... put a TVS unit from the 2013-2014 Shelby program and you’ll add another 110 ponies in a heartbeat. Fun stuff. It’s doesn’t hook up well, but from a 20 or 30 roll it’s a beast. Plus at the end of the day you own a Shelby GT500... go for it !!!

Do you mind posting up a build thread for your fox if you have all that info and pics?

I had a few pics on here a couple years ago as I was thinking of trading it or buying a terminator. I never did a build thread but happy to answer anything you want to know. I'll dig up some pics too if you want to see the car.
It wasn't too over the top but it was fun.
306, AFR 185 heads, stage 3 trickflow cam, c4, 3:73 gears, 8 point cage, 300 big shot of NOS. So race car may have been a stretch, but it run good.

I own a 2011, very little change between the 11 and 12.

I’d suggest getting PP (Performance Package) car if there is one available. The suspension is a bit lower and stiffer and they have 3.73 gears. They also have nicer wheels that are 19/20 stagger.

The 11/12 have the aluminum block and the clutch is decent compared to the 07-09 cars.

Not sure what you’d be planning mod wise but for a start a MGW shifter and Mobil 1 synthetic ATF (Tremec Tech recommenced Mobil 1 to me) in the trans will make it shift nicer. A Roush rear UCA will take away the somewhat violent hop in the rear axle.

As far as performance goes a pulley and tune will give you a nice boost maybe 50ish at the wheels. A 2.3 TVS as already mentioned will put you in the low 600’s at the wheels with a pulley, JLT intake, throttle body, and injectors.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

Good info and thanks, Mod wise I think I'm going to keep it pretty basic for awhile, probably the typical bolt ons, CAI, Axle backs if needed, maybe a pulley swap and a tune. I did long tubes on my 05-09 car and it was a pita, so I may skip that until bigger mods come.
I wasn't thinking suspension but the UCA isn't a bad upgrade cost or work wise so I'll probably throw that in the mix. I'm meticulously looking for the right car, not in a hurry cause I'd like something low mileage and in like new shape. I haven't run across any performance package cars, but the extra rear gear would be very nice to have, I need to keep my eyes peeled. Thanks!

Just a little info on these cars.

You really won’t see much gain from a CAI unless you do a Supercharger upgrade. The 2012 has the same CAI as the 13/14 which is 662hp. Pulley and tune are best bang for the buck. I would suggest a resonator delete on the intake tube, it looks cleaner and you’ll hear more Supercharger whine.

Same with longtubes, you can probabaly put 700hp to the wheel through the stock manifolds.

Good to know.. I'm out of the loop on these cars, been push rod motors for the last few years and such, but I hope to settle in and re-educate myself soon.
