Been here several months now and never posted in here as there were a few things I wanted to get done to the car before posting. I’m in East Texas and have an ‘07 Shelby GT with 21.5k miles. Ford Hot Rod cams, LT’s, Mac pro chamber mid pipe with borla axle back with frpp struts/lowering springs and sway bars (Shelby factory). Next thing on the list is to put the gt500 front and rear brakes on the car as I just put 20” 50th anniversary Shelby super snake wheels on. Debating if I eventually want to go boost or just keep it in the garage more and get an s550 to build for higher hp.

If your going for Brembo brakes, there is several ways to go. Now me, I used standard 2014 Brembo Brakes in front and 2014 GT500 brakes in the back. Do not make the same mistake I did reusing the old calipers in the back. Go all new everything. The 2014 GT500 Brembo setup in the front are kind of big and heavy. Also I did have stock wheel issues in the front that needed 20/17mm spacers. Both size spacers will work. I went Raybestos all the way around. Stay way from the race only rotors as they will rust on the first wash.

whipple or Paxton ?

Not sure yet. Was looking at department of boost and whipper but it would be a couple of years before I forged it and boosted it. I’ll prob go with the different trans and make sure everything else is upgraded first.

Thanks for the heads up. I was looking at using the same calipers with the adapters but sounds like I need to change the mounting brackets and go with the upgraded calipers in the back. Also read about using the cheaper 4 piston calipers from oreilleys and just getting a decent set of pads and rotors.

This is the stuff you need. What you see is the back Race GT500 rotors that are unprotected from rust. The front ones are street rotors fully protected from rust. What is missing is a new set of back Calipers. Second picture. With the new Calipers, I ordered the right street rotors that are fully zinc coated. It's the same back rotor just zinc coated. Also I am starting over with new pads. All because of old stuck calipers. They could have been stuck for a long time.

Stock size rear rotors? I was planning on going with the 14” rear rotors as well.

Yes both front and back are 14 inchers. The 2014 GT500 15 inch fronts are very heavy at 32 lb. The back 14 inchers are 13 lbs. The front 14 inchers are about 22 or so lbs. You will want them Street Zinc Coated. They are no different then uncoated race units. The stock backs are about 11.8 inches.

Hey ShelbySteve, welcome!

I see you're from East Texas........just where exactly are you located?
I'm originally from that area of Texas......born & raised in Gladewater, TX & moved to Farmington, NM some 30 yrs ago thru a job transfer (oil field related) & been here ever since, now retired since 2017.

That surrounding area around your house\car sure looks familiar to me.........

Nice ride!

On a side note. Henry Myers saved the life of Davy Crockett in the book American Legend by Bud Levy.

Back to business. Here is a picture of a rear Caliper and 14 inch rotor with pads. It's fully zinc coated for rust protection. I will install them tomorrow. Part Number RAY 680990 Rotor and MGD1082CH pads. The calipers are Power Stop L4926 and L4927.

Using adapters to mount the calipers or pulling the axles and changing the inside brackets?

I already installed the adaptors a month ago with the Race Rotor part number RAY680990R. The old calipers seem to have been stuck and the rotors got hot. Not so hot as need replaced but they also did not have rust protection and really rusted on the first wash. So this time I am taking another trail. Since I have to replace the calipers I might as well install the rotors with the Rust Protection part number RAY680990
