Was doing some work on my 2007 Mustang GT and saw this paint marking on the driver side engine block. AFAIK, the engine has never been replaced. Car is a very early (March, 2006) build 2007 so just curious if this was something the factory did during the crossover months of the 06/07 MY.

The car also has QA paint pen on various parts (fan shroud, midpipe for example).

A March 2006 build date would indeed make it a very early 2007 model because mine was built only four months earlier (November 2005) and it's a 2006.
The markings on the fan shroud and mid-pipe suggest they're junkyard replacements for original parts. I don't know what the green paint on the block is about but there are black markings underneath (looks like two letters followed by '08), which suggests to me that the engine might be from an '08 model and not original.

Yeah, I had an 06 MY that was built April 2006 (after this 07 lol). The paint pens look like some sort of factory QA vs junkyard replacements as none of those should have been replaced either, and the PNs track with the same assembly date.

The engine still had the RMP valve cover barcode which had the assembly date of 03/2006 which tracked so I don’t think the engines been replaced. It also had the stock high threaded spark plugs in it, not the 08+ style heads.

Are you sure about the 2007 model year? This is from an old thread on a different site:

'06 Last Date of Production 6/2/06
'07 Order Bank Opens 3/13/06
'07 Job #1 06/05/06

Typically, Ford doesn't change production runs in March.

Yep. Confirmed on the door jam and in the Ford Oasis Report. Build date of March 29th, 2006. 2007 Model Year GT

Also on the CarFax it was owned privately by Ford and driven for about a year or so before it was sold and titled to its “first” public owner on the title.

Apparently if you subtract 100,000 from the last six digits of your VIN, the remaining number shows in which order your car was produced.
e.g. The last six digits of my VIN are 164232. Subtract 100,000 and you get 64,232. Since 166,762 2006 Mustangs were produced, mine was 38.5% of the way (almost mid-year) into the production run and the build date was 28 November 2005 (engine build date 18 Nov 2005).
This suggests that the production run for the 2006 MY was from July 2006-June 2006.

Perhaps only the short block was from an '08 model and the rest were the original pieces.

Yeah, with an unusually early March 2006 build date, it makes sense that it was a Ford dealership demonstrator/test vehicle for a few months prior to its sale. The very first 2007 model will have 100001 as the last six digits of its VIN, and the last one will have 258280.

Hmmm, the last 6 of my VIN is 195842. Not sure if by March 2006 they had made almost 96k 2007s yet, but I suppose it’s possible.
