Sounds like a bearing issue or driveshaft then. Not to ask you to drive crazy or anything but does it change pitch if you change lanes fast or move the weight of the car back and forth. If it does it could be a axle bearing or axle, if not I would say pinion bearing or driveshaft. Do you still have the stock 2 pc shaft? Just throwing some things out there for ya

The stock 2 piece is on it.

Well, after calling around and not finding any place local who can balance these driveshafts, I took it to the dealer. I'll keep you guys posted.

I've never taken a vehicle to a dealer in my life.

Awesome, thanks man. Does the dealership have to install these weights for free or not? I hope it's not the bearings, the car only has 22k miles.

I had those weights removed when I did my relocation brackets...I now have the exact whine you are talking about. It doesnt really bother me though.

Well sweet. The dealer called and said yes, it's probably the driveshaft, however they have no way to balance it and their local outsourcing shop can't do these type of shafts either. It'll cost $1,001 for a new driveshaft plus labor. They also said one of the ball joints is bad and would be $565 to fix. I told them no, I'll pick up the car and find another place

WTF? This is a 4 yr old 22k mile car! My 160k mile Trans Am has run like a top the entire time Ive owned it, I've only spent $40 on repairs above regular maintenance!

So for $90, the dealer basically told me that my first Ford is a piece of shit and they can't do a thing to fix it. I thought Ford quality was tops nowadays? This seriously has me pissed.

LOL $1000..... They must be joking. You can get an aftermarket one piece for what $500 and they are easy to swap out. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are but it is seriously a very easy task if you got jackstands and a few tools.

Tried the steering quickly at speed thing and made no difference.

Also talked to the guy at the tranny shop. He does rearends as well and doesn't think it has anything to do with the bearings in the rearend or the gears.

He said it might be something with the pinion angle when the car gets up to speed? Or the car was tweaked at some point, although there appears to be absolutely nothing wrong under the car? Or try to find a place that balances wheels while still on the car? Maybe hubs? Or rotors out of balance?

I'm lost. No idea what to do here.

Its possible its pinon angle but I am not sure, I read on another site that there could be a bushing problem in the trans, but I am not a 100% sure. I did not notice any hum till the lowering so it could be pinon angle. But I dont have adj control arms to try it.

I had the same problem with a 2008 GT that I owned briefly. After a week of owning it I noticed the hum/drone/resonation noise and took the car to the ford dealership. It sat at the service department for a total of 28 days. They kept it for two weeks and replaced the transmission twice, the driveshaft, new tires, new wheels. After the two weeks they gave it back to me and said it was fine. It still had the problem so I took it back and they kept it for another week. When they gave it back the second time they "fixed" it by taking the transmission, driveshaft, and axle off another car and putting it on mine. When I picked it up and told me this I wasn't happy about it, and the car still made the noise. I took it back for the third time and the flew in an engineer from ford for a week who put sound deadener all over the car, replaced the ring and pinion, and rebalanced the driveshaft. When I got the car back the third time it still made the noise. I was able to get the car bought back by Ford under the lemon law. It was replaced by a 2010 GT and I haven't had a single problem with it. (knock on wood)

If you ask me the problem lies in the body or frame. Some frames must just transmit more resonance. On my '08 they basically replaced everything after the engine multiple times and nothing worked on that car. The only thing they did not replace was the frame.

Man that sucks. Guess I'll just live with it.
