Beware MMR!!!

The thing that amazes me is how a so called professional engine builder could possible let something like my engine go out the door......

The block is still good, I will just have to get it bored .010-.020 over so I can sell it or put another short block together with a rotating assembly package.

Earl, Support your local machine shop, I am sure that someone in your area is very capable of putting a motor together.

It's a simple combo, your block, your crank, your rods and then the proper pistons and youa re ready to rock. If you work with a local guy you can express your concerns, and he can answer your questions.

If your motor would clean up at .020 I wouldnt hesitate to use it.

If you do not have a good shop near you and youre looking else where you can try Fox Lake ( http://www.foxlakeracing.com/) or L&M engines (.http://www.lmengines.com/) Both are on the right side of the country and do exceptional work with no B.S.
I also have another local guy to me that has done 7 shortblocks for me in the last 7 months, one of which was a low mile brand X redo.....

Lets face it, not one of these guys is reinventing the wheel, Cobra (Kellog)cranks, Manley rods and their perferred pistons. The only thing that each can supply differently is quality and attention to detail.

I know Mike but I live in the boonies and at the time there wasn't anyone within reasonable driving distance that was familiar with the 3v. I went with MMR because, at the time, they had a good reputation and offered a new Ford block so I wouldn't have the down time and cost of shipping my stock shortblock for the build. When I ordered this the main recommendations were MMR and VT engines, at least I didn't choose VT so I actually received something. The block will clean up no problem it's not that bad and if I decide to build it I will do it myself. I used to build all my engines and I am pretty sure I can still build a shortblock. I should have done that in the first place but I hadn't built anything in years and I got lazy and didn't want to learn all the OVC stuff.

As I stated lessons learned and I just want to move forward and get this thing running correctly. The pistons got here today so I have to get everything reballanced and then can start getting it all back togeather.

if its like mine they provide a build sheet on that short block. So basically they lied...They provided a faulty product that was not as advertised. They falsified the documents they gave you that shows the bores and balance sheet.Clearly liable...

At the level of engines most are building a quality local builder is fine. The speciality knowledge that is required to build a competive engine for a specific track in a specific series isnt needed. In the end an engine is pretty much an engine. If he builds everthing from NHRA Pro Import Hondas to Hooters Cup Mopars a little overhead cam Ford with VCT isnt likely to phase him.

Another Victim to MMR

I know that most know never to buy anything from MMR, but I still wanted to share my story out of brute anger and frustration.

Well I bought a set of P&P heads from MMR a while back, before I knew they had a bad rep of course, with the intention of building a N/A DD and occasional track car. They advertised that their heads (Manley springs/retainers) could handle any cam you throw at them, so knowing that I bought some Comp 127500's to install on my stang. Everything works like a charm... smooth sounding engine with no issues whatsoever.

Well I find out today, that the Manley Nextek Valve Springs have a max lift of .500. Man was I pissed!!!! How the hell can that handle any cam! I called them up to verify that this is indeed the same spring that they are using and they said yes... I asked them what kind of retainers they install and they said "just the factory ones" OMG. I think I lost it at that point...

Anyways, I just wanted to let anyone out there that hasn't heard of them, to not buy ANYTHING from them.

I'm going to have to go through the dreading process of installing new valve springs again... ugh... this sucks. And then the fact that I know my current springs could fail just adds to my frustration.

Just curious, how long have you bee running that setup?

I've been running those springs with the 127500's for about 6 months now. I'm really surprised I haven't destroyed a spring yet.
