Hi,

Can anyone tell me what happens in the transmission (5R55S) when you
set the o/d lockout to ON.
I have lapped my car several times, always with the o/d lockout on, it
has always worked fine, new fluid / filter / oil temp gauge, not being too hard on the transmission. The last time out it would work ok for about a bit, then the car would
shift as if the o/d lockout was not on. every gear, lockup etc... just like it was in DRIVE I reset the battery, the fluid temp.
was at 180° also if you tried to geared down manually (TCI Ratchet Shifter) you would have to give the gas pedal a little tap to get it to gear down.
Going home and ever since then, on the street it has worked perfectly.

Just would like to know if I could find out what might have happened.
What function does the OVERDRIVE LOCKOUT button control.

Thanks for any info, :thumb2:

I would bet that what you are describing is the lock-up of the torque converter at or around 50-55 mph or what ever your RPM is set for lock-up in 4th gear. The O/D off button should turn off O/D.

I am trying to find out what specifically happens inside the transmission / torque converter. What functions happen inside the transmission when the OD lockout
button is ON.

Thanks again,

Bob

All the O/D button does is turn OD on or off. That's pretty much it. The ECU controls the transmission.

The gear shift when put into 3 locks it into 3 and the same goes for 2 and 1.

If you have it in 3 and stop and then accelerate again, it will stay in 3.
