If money isn't a concern I would get the GT 500 hands down. I have the 5.0 and haven't had the problems that others have had but I really can't enjoy the car for the constant worrying that it is going to eat itself at any given time. I just recently put my car back to 100% stock powertrain wise and it isn't nearly as fun to drive with the loss of power and all the torque management that is built into the factory tune. But this way if I do have any failures it will be covered under warranty.

Not many people on this forum JUST get a 5.0. Most of them spend a decent chunk of that 20k on the 5.0 to make it look like the gt500 and maybe the capability to handle 700hp.

Yes, and they same people would end up spending the same $20k on the GT-500 as well. So thats a wash. I'll stand by statement, lol
Few people are happy with the stock 480rwhp of the GT-500, mod it and jump into the same warranty voiding boat anyway as well.

5.0 = new technology, better mpg, lower insurance, less chance of getting screwed with in a parking lot, cheaper purchase price, with same power potential as the GT-500 as long as staying under 650rwhp, which any sane person is doing on the street anyway.

i used to drool over the 10+ shelby, but after seeing them around I am back to liking the 07-09 500 the best. that huge front grille is damn sexy. plus, just add twin turbos for 9s or 10s...

5.0 at 650whp has not lived very long. all we know is that it can handle the power for a few dyno runs and strip runs. Once people start to DD them for a couple years, then we can say that its reliable power... Not saying that it wont, but we dont know yet. it is definitely a nice motor.

If you are buying it to race then 5.0 all day.

5.0+SC+x pipe+suspension=10s And can be done for 37K

2011 GT500+tires=low 11s and 48k and some places higher. Can't find a new one here cheaper then 48k to start.

If just buying to look cool or not mod at all the the GT500.

get an Toytoa prius ...... no just playing ... A neighbor got a 11 5.0 and threw the whipple on it had it tuned to 669/578 rwhp ..... rode the car with the supercharger on it for at least 3 months ... then when leaving the city police station from bringing his wife something for lunch he turned left leaving the parking lot and BOOM motor blew... I think it has to be detonation b/c he turned left doing about 10 miles per hour.. What caused the detonation we don't know yet b/c they havn't pulled the motor yet ....

Just b/c of stock bottom end i'd say get the gt500, b/c you will survive a little longer at same power levels.

Gt500's motor is factory build to handle boost, stock transmission is proven to last at high power levels, it looks more aggressive and holds value.... Downside is higher price, gas milage not as good, insurance costs, and Shelby's name all over the damn thing. If I could buy gt500 over 5.0 than I would, if I'm short money wise, than 5.0 is the way to go.

GT500 hands down...you'll be grateful in 30 years when the value goes up on it. It holds gobs of power and is a proven performer.

GT500. Always a limited production car. Always gonna carry a premium over a regular GT.

Agree. Take a look at 03-04 cobra's even though it does not carry Shelby's name on it, it's still worth around $20k, while same year gt's go for less then $10k now

its like saying that you can buy an 11 v6, add a blower and make 470whp for the price of a gt...

I wonder how often people give the 5.4's a bump in compression when they rebuild? That would put things on a more level playing ground. Seems like it would be sick at a mid 9.5:1 with a set of twin billet's!

A pulley and tune hardly costs 20 large. That's all you need to make pretty decent numbers. As for traction either of the cars is going to need some different wheels and tires to put the power down, possibly only tires. Do the GT's come with a sticker that says don't ding my door or something? The "potential" between the two cars is not the same.
