Is a GT500 even an option considering the power potential of the new 5.0s

Had both, like the 5.0 better. :)

Both are great cars. You really can't go wrong either way. So if you're talking about a used '10-'11 GT500 for the same $$ as a '11-'12 5.0, pick whichever one has the options you're looking for.

EDIT: I forgot to add, if you're considering a 5.0 or a '07-'09 GT500, then there's absolutely no contest. You should get the 5.0. Personally..........(S197forum flame suit ON)........I don't like the look of the '05-'09 cars at all, GT or GT500. :)

Theoretically the gt500 would hold more power. But since the 5.0s dont seem to be having any problems staying together at 600+ it seems that it doesn't matter much.

The reliability of an OEM stock car and 500hp is a bit more tempting than aftermarket HP and the gt500 will hold more power stock.

all dependents oh how well you like to row gears too. Wouldn't want to do that a whole lot in the 5.0 as you may have it at the shop very soon. 6060 = WIN!!!!!

I have my own thoughts and experiences on this, but I said I wouldn't post anymore about it. Let's just say it's opposite of your thoughts. :)

depends on what you want out of the car.

FWIW - the new 5.0s are not proven long term with big power in stock form. I know of a few that have blown up.

the 5.4 in the GT500 is a proven at the 700whp level to live

I disagree. The 500 will always have the shelby name behind it and will always be a better value over time + the supercharged motor can make 700+ hp with minimal changes. GT500 over the 5.0 ...anyday

Yea I like your bias because if I had the coin to throw at it your front end would be on my car in SSilver.

Unless I could afford a 2011 GT500 with the aluminum block, I would go with a 5.0.

I say GT500, '11 > 07-09, over a '11 5.0 any day. Why? Comes with a TR6060 and not a Chinese Getrag. Has more proven motor. Has lasting value. Lastly, you can say you have a GT500.... :p

Get the 5.0 and stack $20,000 on the dash to smile at every time you get in the car.

Not many people on this forum JUST get a 5.0. Most of them spend a decent chunk of that 20k on the 5.0 to make it look like the gt500 and maybe the capability to handle 700hp.
