Hi!
I opened up my valve covers and got to see a cam for the first time in my life. they seem healthy but I wanted to get better look at my cams by experts. I see some strips along the lobes. are those indication of wear on rocker arms? just want to make sure they are good. Thanks!
That's the normal wear pattern left by the rollers of the cam followers on the cam lobes. As long as there are no score marks or signs of pitting in the cam lobes, you can call them good.
You might want to run a fingernail from side to side on the lobes that appear to have a white line. If that line doesn't catch the fingernail you're good. Otherwise it might be a sign that a piece of dirt got into the oil and wore a groove in the cam lobe.
Sorry, I don't know enough about cam wear to make a meaningful recommendation. However, now that the engine is out of the car, it's a good opportunity to fix potential problems. My real question is what are your intentions with pulling the engine? This may impact suggestions.
i took the engine out to do timing chain guide replacement. im changing out all timing components and while im at it, im changing all gaskets. 1 coolant hose. im wondering if i should do oil pump change also…
