A buddy of mine is debating rather or not to get this Mach 1, what do you guys think about it? I tried talking him into getting an s197 model but he prefers a DOHC and the new 5.0 is out of his budget right now. This car is stock.

Mach 1s are nice but he needs to drive a S197 and realize how much better it is overall. And WGAF about wether it's DOCH or SOHC, they're both Mustangs and have same power level.

I agree, first thing I asked when I saw it was where are the original Mach 1 wheels? lol

Very true I need to have a talk with him, some people don't understand the new generations of mustangs are over ruling the previous when it comes to a "stock" to "stock" configuration

All it takes is a 10 minute test drive. Which is why I'm afraid to test drive one of the new 5.0 Mustangs, I love my Bullitt but I'm afraid if I drove a new one I'd have to trade up.

Depends on the price of the Mach 1. If it's a good deal, that car could be a lot of fun. I had a '98 Cobra, and it was a really fun car, but after driving my S197, I could never go back. Of course, that Mach 1 is not gonna be nearly as nice to drive and live with as an S197, but then again, I'm sure a used S197 would cost more. And he would obviously have to factor in the cost of a new set of wheels...

I would buy a nice 5 speed MACH 1 over a 3V S197 at this point, especially if the 5.0 DOHC is out of his price range. Four years from now a MACH 1 will be worth more than run of the mill 4.6 3V GT. Special production car v. regular production car. Being a low volume special trim will make the MACH 1 hold it's value longer.

i don't get why people buy cars as investments unless they're already worth something. i rather buy a car drive the piss out of it and enjoy it for years to come. if you turn it into an investment then you can't modify it repaint it if the motor goes then youre not numbers matching.

i almost bought a mach 1 before getting the 3v. sometimes i wish i did. but i like the availability of these parts more. I guess i was partial because the mach1 i drove was tuned and test driving 3v's bone stock are not impressive at all. But im glad I got the 3v. The body style looks much better imo. And i like the interior much more.

I would say the Mach I is on par with a S197 performance wise. the interior of 99-04 Mustang is antiquated exception being the Mach I/Cobras still not on par with the S197 but better than the GT of that era.I like the limited production of the Mach I 03/04 and everything but handling and interior are about equal. my vote go for the Mach I. You can setup the suspension add a power adder and have a limited production Mustang. I would consider the limited production, 4v, shaker hood, unique interior and cluster and exterior cues.

First thing Id do though is get rid of the rims and go with some FR500 18x9 and 18x10 to complete the look.

I never buy anything without considering the value of it when I expect to be done with it.
