A GT500 with 800rwhp is a mid-high 9 second car at around 140mph. I don't think a 600rwhp Boss is going to keep up unless the GT500 driver just popped a nyquil. Not to mention the fact that you can make over 700rwhp in the GT500 with just a few (ok, more like 5) grand in mods (bolt ons, tune, blower swap, supporting stuff like HE/pumps/injectors etc.) and it will be reliable
I was meaning a 6r80 equipped GT making 6xxhp, not the manual boss.

I've seen footage of a procharged Boss making 9xxwhp take down a twin turbo lambo at a local event called Runway Rivalry. Lambo was rated at 200ish whp more. Any kind of power added coyote can be a force to be reckoned with relatively.

I agree with that, and not to mention how fast some of them are going without a power adder.

I'd love to have an 07-09 Shelby some day. Just hard to beat the cool factor of those things.

I think that's where the value is. Again, personal preference trumps 90% of the topics we discuss as Mustang Enthusiasts, but seeing as how both cars can dominate any discipline with the right budget, the Shelby does have it's novelty because...well, it's a Shelby.

I agree on the automatic being the preferred choice for drag racing. I used to have a 4400 stall in my old LS1 Trans Am and that thing ran mid 11's all day with 1.5 60's. So I know all about stalled cars having a huge advantage at the track.

But manuals are a lot of fun on the street which is why I have a manual right now. My goal is to have a car fast enough to run mid 11's without needing a great 60' to do it while keeping the car in the 450-500 rwhp range. So something in the 11.7 @ 120 range on a 1.8 - 1.9 60' would be fine by me. This is my goal for three reasons.

1). I don't want to put a roll bar in a nice street car so no sub 11.5's.

2). I don't want to burn up clutches, break rearends, bend axles, ect and a great way to avoid any of that is to not launch like a bat out of hell with 6000+ rpm clutch dumps on sticky tires.

3). I don't want so much power that I can't get any traction on the street if I try to go WOT at say 30 mph.

I want to actually enjoy the car without ending up in a ditch or exceeding the stock engines/transmissions capabilities. I'm already worried that my 07 GT is on borrowed time at 60K miles because the rods and transmissions in this car suck. And while I can finance a car payment I can't and wouldn't want to finance a built motor, built transmission and insane labor fees.

So I've been kicking around the idea of trading in on an 07 GT500 or 13 Boss 302 since they should be able to handle 450-500 rwhp easily, look bad ass and sound bad ass. Shelby is just a classic but revving to 7800 in a bad ass sounding boss 302 would rock.

It's a tough choice.

Depends on your goals.

GT500 - big power with basic boltons - block good to 800whp and trans good for that and change

Boss302 - better handling by far - forged block good to over 1,000whp but transmission will not make it very far past 650whp before shitting the bed.

If I were building a 4 digit 1/2 mile car or roll racing car i'd probably go with the Boss as it's cheaper to replace the trans than it is to build a new bottom end for the Shelby.

For a fun daily driven street car in the 550 - 700whp range the Shelby wins big time in my book and that's why I went with the Shelby personally.

Either would be very cool!

Buy the GT 500 !
I'm probably a bit der than most on this site and I can say I've seen very special cars turn into plain old used cars in my lifetime. The Shelby will command a bigger resale value, plus more cubes. I can remember 1970 GT 500's going in the $5000.00 range, but I was young and that was a lot of money at the time. I'm sure the boss will keep its price up, but anything with the Shelby name will command more.. Just my 2 cents, enjoy what ever you decide !

Pretty much this. If it were me, I wouldn't even be thinking about it. Boss 302 because corner carving.
