My driver seat developed a hotspot about 2 years ago. The car is rarely driven in the winter time. I figured it's a broken heating element/wire in the seat so I just stopped using it.

I tried turning it on today and it doesn't seem to heat up at all, so I'm assuming at this point there's a complete break.

1. How difficult is it to change out the heating element in the seat? Is it just a matter of removing the seat removing the leather and then unplug and plug in a new one?

2. Being that there's a hotspot, is that the most likely culprit?

3. I tried searching but didn't find much. Has anyone actually done this repair?

4. Does anyone know the part number for the seat heating element? Is that even what it's called?

Thanks,

Jim

This video is good for removing and dismantling the seat.

1. Yes. However, that is a long drawn out process. The basics of it is that you will be sliding the pad in the BACK of the seat. There is a long clip. In the video above, skip to 4:10 and you will see the clip he is removing. IF you can remove that while the seat is installed, you may be able to slide it up under the leather without dismantling the entire thing. Because I've done it before, I know exactly what to look for. However, removing the seat will probably still be easier.

2. It doesn't seem like there's a hotspot anymore, it seems like it doesn't work at all based on what you said. Most likely yes, I would assume that is the culprit. To test it, you get a multimeter and check the pins in the connector before removing any of the seat. It should be the female side you will want to test. But just check to see which side is buried in the seat.

3. I have done it. Well, not a repair, but a full install in a car that didn't have it.
Here is all of my documentation.

(don't get A, A is for the back)

IF you cannot find the pad... you can probably buy a generic pad with similar dimensions and replace the connector with this one.
Connector Female Part#: 7283-6444-60
Manufacturer: YES/YESC Kaizen Connector 1.5X0.8 2P Female│YAZAKI Connectors Catalog
Mouser: 7283644460 Yazaki | Mouser

Hopefully this helps
