2011+ magnaflow street/competition series drone issues/questions

Two questions

-Does anyone have the magnaflow STREET series installed with the factory cats/H-pipes and how is the drone?

-has anyone installed the Competition system and successfully eliviated the drone it has around 2k RPM. Welding in extra resonators on the over-axle pipes? Exhaust wrap? Sound deadening in the trunk? Half-wave resonators?

I have the competition system, I love the sound on throttle above 2k RPM and cruising below 1500rpm its like its not there, but the 1.5k-2k drone (esp in 6th gear) is quite bothersome.

I have the comp catback and I'm unfamiliar with the drone you speak of at 2Krpm or any cruising rpm.

Put in 6th at 60mph, then try to accelerate to 70mph..its a low frequency sound that starts to fill the entire cabin..it also happens under acceleration at the same RPM in other gears but it seems to be the worst in 6th. Its almost as if you have 2 large subs hitting a constant bass note..once you get past 2krpm or so..you will hear it die down and back to hearing the actual engine noise...its actually louder at 2k rpm than 2500 rpm..I found myself downshifting into 5th just to run it at a higher RPM and lessen the drone. If you have an x-pipe or 3.73s your drone point may be different.

I just talked to magnaflow and he said it should help alot, I might just try them first since I can buy the complete cat-back but just swap out the mufflers. (over-axle pipes are the same according to magnaflow)

I had the Magnaflow muffler deletes first. Then I tried Bassani street (I think) and those were much better. But when I put on the offroad pipe, they were unbearable. Now I have the gt500 muffs, and I love the way these sound.

Do yourself a favor and buy a set of GT 500 mufflers. End thread.....

Thanks for your suggestion, but not ending the thread. I really dont like the bends of the stock over-axle pipes and thanks to ford for jacking up the price of the GT500 ABs..well they become much less attractive

Dude there are a couple of threads hear talking about how the Magnaflow over the axle pipes are JUNK. They say the fit is horrible. The stock over the axle pipes are just fine, you won't gain any HP by changing them out.

Dude, I installed them this weekend with no issues, they are actually easier to get in than the stockers and weight much less. The stock over-axle pipes have a rediculous kink where they go over the pan-hard brace and the resonators neck down on the inside. You obviously haven't seen either part, I'm basing my opinion on real-life personal experience, not something I read 2nd hand.

I guess everyone has their own opinion on what they like but I have Magnaflow Comp CB and love it. No fitment issues and very good quality. Yeah, there is a little drone at the rpm you stated in 6th gear but the sound of it at higher rpms make up for it. I dont DD my car so its not that big of an issue to me. My car stays in higher rpms most of the time anyway.

My Magnaflow over the axle sections fit perfect on my old car as well. A good friend had the same exact exhaust and it fit perfect too.

I love everything about it minus the drone lol...I wouldnt mind doing 85 everywhere, but in my area everyone drives like ninnies so its not even possible most of the time. That and my finacee said it shakes the whole house when I start it, most of that cold start noise is the same type as the drone on the high-way.

I just thought the noise you described as drone came with having a high flowing 3" exhaust. I dont know to expect anything different I guess. We're not driving Nissan Leafs.

I do have Stainless Works 1 7/8 headers and off road X pipe. Not sure if that plays a part in the v8 music.

i have a bbr xpipe with the street mufflers.. very little drone.. but having 4.10's keeps me out of the drone rpm...

Mine drones so badly I'm honestly thinking of putting different mufflers on it, like Corsa or something. I would experiment with sound-deadening and/or resonators, but I don't want to invest a bunch of time and money into something that might not actually work...

Im in the same boat as you, I can sell it and take a few hundrew bucks in a loss, but ill be pissed if I spend the money to install resonators (prob $200ish) and there is no change.

TimMcc..Im fine with the volume of the exhaust otherwise..but a solid 3" system (IMO) should have a linear increase in volume as RPMs climb..at 2krpm under very little load, it should be relatively quiet. These are louder at 2krpm with partial load than they are at 3k under full load it seems, its just a very low tone but sound level wise its noticable

I have magnaflow street catback with an off road Xpipe. There is driving noise, but its not unbearable... "Drone" never has bothered me though, so I'm probably the last person you want to listen to. I drove a 94 cobra with LT's, O/R Hpipe, and 2 chamber flowmasters dumped for the longest and never bothered me.

different folks different strokes. Ive had 2 other cars with full cat-less 3" exhaust systems with no issues....600CC sport bikes with insane-o loud full titanium systems..but this low frequency shake your interior panels drone is pretty bothersome. If you guys like that then more power to you
