I have a 2012 I bought as a wreck and I have replaced all the airbags but have not gotten to the steering wheel airbag yet. Does the clock spring have to be replaced, drivers air bag fired but does that kill the clock spring?
I am sending out the airbag module under the armrest to be reset. Do I also have to have the ECU cleared of crash codes? It has a salvage title and im not worried about crash data showing up but does it need to be reset in order to not throw codes?

Any helo is appreciated.

I'm not 100% about a 2012, but when I rebuilt my 2008 Bullitt, we bought a new drivers airbag and airbag module, and had Ford reprogram the ECU.

The car was dead when we got it though.

Not positive, but I do remember that the impact sensors on the clockspring usually are one time use and would have to be replaced.

Is the clock spring under the drivers airbag?

The only time the clock spring itself would need to be replaced is if the heat from the airbag melted the connector plugs. Or, if you rotate it too many times when the steering shaft is disconnected and it uncoils. Otherwise, it doesn't need to be replaced after a collision.

The clock spring does have to be replaced as there is some odd glue that is used to adhere the clips to the bag. Needless to say the glue is on there to stay and there is no getting it off without breaking the clips

I've never seen this, or heard of it, and I've removed dozens of airbags and clock springs. My own car that was in a front end collision still has its original clock spring. I put a brand new airbag in it, had the system reprogrammed, and it's been flawless for nearly 5 years now.

The only thing I can think of that you'd be referring to, is when the bag goes off, the base of it gets so hot it can melt the plugs where they plug in, and sometimes they won't come out without breaking, or cutting them off.

Ok so when I pulled the blown wheel airbag the two plugs were melted into the airbag. Simply squeezing the release clips has the breaking off. uploadfromtaptalk1397409175391.jpg
Those suckers are cripsy and crunchy. So it looks like a new clock spring for me. I could see how these could be picked off on an undeployed bag but this one is done.
