+1 on the 3.15 in an auto. Got a set of 3.55's to install if I can find a decent shop that won't rape me for the install.

I've been quoted around $350 local to install them. Prolly just nite the bullet and get them done. What can I expect with the new gearing?

bring it down to corpus and ill do the install for 200.00. 350 seems alil steep to me

A friend of mine has an '11 5.0L Automatic. Bone stock, she ran a 12.98 @ 110 in the 1/4 mile. With a canned tune & drag radials (not even a CAI), she now runs 12.20's @ 114. 3.15 rear end gears with that super steep 1st gear help launch these cars pretty well. Aftermarket converter would be a better choice than more rear end gears.

Damn, so what's their launch technique with the DR's?

She heats up the tires just until a little smoke is visible in her rear view mirror. She lines up, stages shallow, holds the revs to about 1500 rpm's against the brakes, and mashes the gas (while releasing the brakes) on the last amber.

Thanks. DRs are on my list. I don't think my 20s are going to handle the 5.0 very well.

Auto gear change

Ford Cannot change the PCM on A/T cars to accomodate different gears than the factory 3.15. I know from personal experience.

That's because Ford is the retarded. go pick up an SCT tuner and change it yourself. everyone said not to go beyond 3.73s in the auto on the 05-10's and I put 4.10s in my '07 and loved them. Someone else in this thread has 4.10s in their 2011 and loves them. I know a few others have done 4.10s and I plan on doing 4.10s. The rule of thumb:

Don't fear the Gear!

if you really dislike it, you can always go down, but it's harder to start with like 3.15s, go up to 3.73s decide you want more and go to 4.10s then decide its too much and go back down. although most people dont do that, I Have heard people regretting not going to 4.10s after driving cars with them. in my '07 the 4.10s really helped my 60' times. and dropped a few .10's off my ET.

My car ran ran 11.97 with tune and Dr's(38 deg. weather). Then i changed to 3.73 gears and Circle D 3600 stall and ran 11.57 and 11.58( 75 deg. weather) i love the 3.73 gears great on the street and great at the track. I just installed Procharger P1 Stage 2. going to see how the 3.73's do may have to go down to 3.55.
