That first picture of the Stearman, if you look closely, you can see the head of someone in the front seat. When I was just a little kid my father had a crop dusting business with an old Stearman modified with and P&W R985 and a constant speed prop. The front seat was filled with the big tank, that held whatever he was spraying, or dusting, at the time. Dad had a little seat he made for me and he would strap me on top of that tank, my mother would do the flagging in the fields, looking for hidden posts and such and off we would go. I'll never forget those rides, it was unbelievably fun. The modern theme park rides don't hold a candle to riding the front seat during crop dusting, the way my dad flew. We did that until I started school and then I could only do it on weekends. If parents did that these day they would probably be arrested for child endangerment.

Thought some of you might enjoy this pic. Its a night shot of the DC-8 simulator cockpit that we trained on and did our check rides in. It was an full class 3 simulator. The only difference from the line aircraft was in the navigation setup. The simulator had the old LRN system, the panel just to the right of where the captain's knee would be and the line planes were all converted to the newer GPS systems. All of our DC-8's were converted to what they call "glass cockpits". In other words the analog flight director systems were upgraded to digital and all the aircraft were all equipped identically. This way no matter which aircraft you were flying that night, everything was in the same place and worked the same. Made for much better flight safety that way. Here is the pic.
