Was rotating the tires on my car and noticed my driver's side rear bump stop foam is completely gone. I ordered a new set of bump stops, but I see the bolts holding the old bump stops to the axle are Torx

Does anyone know if those are regular Torx or are they Torx+?

Normal Torx, the only TP+ I noticed so far are the ones at the fuel tank straps. AFAIK TP+ are used when it is a high torque bolt in a small space. Compared to 6pt and 12pt bolts. The 12pt bolt can deliver high torque with a small bolt head.

I had a tiny T30 bolt in a Mercedes with 50 Nm and used a torx bit, which bend and twisted. Then I noticed it was a 10.9 TP+ bolt

They're normal Torx bolts and replacing the bump stops is an easy peasy job. I did both sides on mine in less than 30 minutes.

Should just be regular. I grabbed my master torx set and checked. They're regular T40.

They're really only there for when the suspension bottoms, so you don't slam frame-on-axle.

I'm lowered a fair bit and have never cut mine. I am actually in the process of doing a relocation inboard and removing the stock gussets (which are really only there for transport tie-down).

Did you by OEM or the Ford performance ones?

The current ones are Motorcraft, exact part number. They've got about 20k miles on them so I'm going to ditch them and get new ones. Ford still makes them and they're not expensive. As for the mounts, I'm cutting the spot-welds off the upper gussets and removing those (took left off, haven't had a chance to do car work lately to do the other). They're on there really good. For lower mounts, I'm making some custom plates to bolt to the stock axle location but move the bump inwards so they line up with the frame points. Someone makes these (Vorschlag maybe?) but I have access to a plasma table so will just be making my own. Either way, result is the same. Only reason I'm bothering at all has nothing to do with the jounce stops but my wheels. At full hang they slightly rub on the gussets and I've wanted to resolve that for a while.

I'm sure it's easy if you can get the bolts out. I got one out easy enough, the other one is fighting me. Put on PB blaster and heat twice and twisted off a T40 bit. Sigh...

The Ford Racing M-5570-A ones comes with new bolts. Those are the ones I installed and so far have held up well. The factory rears were falling apart and brittle.

There's unfortunately a lot of exposure for those, so they tend to corrode. PB, but also try just tapping them with a hammer to shock them loose. Good news is if you do manage to snap a head off, it's just a stamped plate with easy access so no issues getting the rest out. If you have an impact screwdriver, those work wonders with things like these. One or two good whacks with a hammer and things turn.

I ordered some impact-rated "stubby" torx bits so gonna give those a try. If not I'll have to cut the head of the bolt off and work the rest out with vise grips or something.

Turned out the passenger side bump stop foam was just about to fall out, front bolt was stuck on that one too. Ended up getting both out thanks to those impact torx bits, PB blaster and a bunch of heat. Glad that's done, car's almost ready to get out for the year.
