As some of you may know, I had a failure on 12/12/13 when going WOT in my stang. Mid gear it came out of gear, pegged rev limiter and I heard a loud noise and the car seemed to jerk a bit. Had it towed to Ford and the next morning they told me it was $4000 to sell/install a remanufactured auto tranny in my car. They claimed the input shaft snapped and took out the converter.

During my transmission swap/removal of the automatic stuff, I drained the transmission fluid and it looked brand new, no metal, no shavings, not burnt- nothing.. Only thing that caught my attention was that after draining it, it only measured out to exactly 2 quarts... In the owners manual, it states between the converter/pan, it holds 11.9 quarts..

It got me thinking, did Ford just plug in a scanner and get no codes and make a bullshit story up? My initial thoughts after seeing how low it was on fluid was that it just wouldn't lock up into gear b/c it couldn't fill up/build enough pressure to properly work.

I want to sell the whole kit, but I don't know whether to list the transmission as blown or in working order (if it was just low on fluid..). Is there anywhere I can take it to get checked out to be sure? Any ideas guys?

I have the 5r55s, flex plate, converter, shifter, bezel, transmission cooler lines, bolts/nuts, engine spacer plate, transmission k member, Break pedal with both switches, shift cable, flywheel (not in picture), along with the transmission cooler itself (still mounted on my car).

If the transmission is deemed working, then this is going to be a complete swap kit for anyone converting to an auto. Any suggestions guys? I don't want to keep all this stashed in my garage.

$900 obo (if transmission is ok)
$475 if transmission is needing to be fixed

Did you pull the converter off yet? I'd start by pulling the converter off, you'll see if the input shaft is broken pretty quickly.

I plan to do that after I finish my swap either today or tomorrow. If the shaft is not snapped or stripped, then what should I do next?

Check if your converter makes noise once removed Put your input shaft in, and rotate back and forth. Then if you have the tool for the outter diameter, repeat the test. You also can use the trans oil pump. If you had only 2 quarts inside, question is, where did it go....mine was broken inside transmission, Ovd gear planetary and ring / sprag / and sungear.
