I went back and re-read that thread start to finish. Couple of things come to mind.
1. Never got the datalog answer so I am guessing no.
2. Did the owner always user 91/93 octane in the car?
This may have been that 1 in 60K kind of deal where there was a legitimate issue but as others have stated, we would all like to know what preceded it. It is unrealistic to think we will get all the info needed to review and some will take it at face value while other's will not.
Either way, back on the original discussion, 99% of 5.0 cars with ring land failures are caused by bad tunes.
93 since day one.
And I doubt the sole cause of these failures was the bad tune. Did it aid in the failure yea probably, but it was more than likely going to happen.
On a side note. When he got his car back less than 2 weeks later it went back in for a head gasket. They covered that under warranty as well.
