Installed battery relocation kit in trunk. Ran power cable to firewall and a junction block. The ground side i cleaned of an area on chassi next to battery installed a cable from chassi to disconnect then disconnect to ground terminal on battery. Any way i see some put disconnect on power is which is correct?

I've always made it rule of thumb to use the negative as a connect/disconnect point. Safer and tends to spark less often (if at all).

Thank you for the reply. I felt cleaning a spot on the chassis next to battery box would be ok for a ground instead of running a ground to front of car does that sound ok.

Yes Negative can go right outside the battery box. Post pics when you can.

I was second guessing myself I guess. I’ve worked in heavy equipment service for 40 years and worked on antique and classic for 20 those years. The car all of a sudden has an intermittent no crank issue. I see a lot of info on ground issues with these cars. So next I’ll track down all my grounds. Any in particular that have the most issues?

Run positive wire from battery to trunk mounted Two Pole switch. Then to firewall mounted distribution block. The block feeds the fuze box and starter. Run the alternator “charge” wire all the way to the trunk mounted two pole switch and connect to the open pole not used for the battery power. Now install a jumper on the battery supply side of the two pole switch joining the to poles. Objective is when the switch is closed, power reaches the firewall and the alternator charges the battery. When the switch is open, no power leaves the switch and the alternator can not charge the battery or power the vehicle with the switch open.
Run the negative wire from the battery all the way to the engine mount. Retain the grounding wire on the back of the engine that connects to the firewall and install a new wire from the engine mount to the shock tower. You can also add a new ground wire from the battery to the chassis in the trunk. A new ground wire from the alternator mount to the shock tower is sometimes helpful.
I fused the positive wire at the battery box and the alternator wire at both ends.

I tried something that maybe I shouldn’t have but I through the battery disconnect to the off position while car was running. It has a new high amp battery disconnect and engine kept running.I assume it should have shut down.

If you are setting it up for drag racing you can't just can't just isolate the negative side of the battery as it does not shut the engine down.

Thank you. Does the processor hold battery voltage to keep running? Where's it getting ground from to keep running?

In order to be race/safety compliant, the disconnect must not only end the battery circuit, but kill the alternator, since once the engine gets going the alternator really runs the show (electrically). If you're just disconnecting the negative terminal (which is a great to have for servicing work) you're not doing anything more than if you lifted the negative off the battery, which won't stop a running car.
