my engine detail consists of warming up the engine (not hot), a light mist w/ water immediately followed by a very liberal wetting with some simple green or another all purpose cleaner. close hood and let sit for about 10-15 min. rinse with water hose w/o a sprayer on it (no pressure). let dry or dry w/ towel ect then use a foaming tire shine on everything and close hood waiting until it is no longer foam. usually about 15 min. wipe all excess off and voila. your engine bay looks stellar.

now this is just from me and i'm in no way a detail guru, but it does work very well as long as you keep up the engine bay so it's not covered in dirt/oil

This stuff is the BOMB on black engine parts, belts, and hoses. I use it by the ton and I personally get it from my local Harley Dealership.

^^^^ Never heard of it....

I've used Engine Brite in the past, followed by pressure cleaning the bay....after being careful to cover electronics. More recently however I switched to Poorboys All purpose cleaner diluted 2:1 with clean rags to wipe up the dirt. I follow this with Chemical Guys Bare Bones, and either Nevr Dull or CG Metal shine/polish on the heads and other metal parts

My '07 Engine bay sprayed with PigSpit. It actually PRESERVES the rubber on hoses and belts and prevents belt squeal! We use it on the black portion of our Harley engines and on our belt since the Harley is belt driven. It's actually advertised for both uses so don't fear it's use. I LOVE IT. Sprays on wherever you want it to go. I even use it on my grill to make it black and wet looking.

Oh, also doesn't attrach dust which is a giant PLUS!!!!
