So iv got a bent axle after a wreck I had back in 06 and im finally getting around to fix it. But here is my delima the car makes over 700 hp now and im removing the 4.10s and putting in a 3.55 or 3.73 with a tru track. My question is Whats your suggestion on gear ratio and if I should go with stock replacement axles or bite the bullet and buy moser's.

The car is mainly a street car with maybe 6 track visits a year. Power adder is a paxton 2200 and Nitrous.

I would keep the 4.10s + 28" tall tire - if you must change the gears do not go lower than 3.73s with a centri

stock axles

The 4.10s just suck first and second gear is useless I mainly drive the car on 20s its rarely on bigs and littles.

It does have full suspension too

4:10's are pretty steep. Try the 3.73's. 3.55's are too low.
Stock axles are 31 spline already so need to waste money of Mosers, especially if you rarely if ever put slicks on it.

Also look into the WaveTrac limited slip dif instead of the TrueTrac

I ran 28" and 3.73's, but I always ran big and littles (295/50/15 DR's) and had no issue from 2nd gear on up traction wise on the street. For the track, 4.10's would have been the sweet spot, but for street driving the 3.73's were a good combo with DR's. Stock axles will be fine. I also ran a Tru-Track and had no complaints with it.

I would be cautious about running the WaveTrac in the Ford 8.8... there seems to be a number of teething issues. We literally were just having this discussion in the Corner-Carvers section and there are a number of folks who have had issues.

And of course it's a gear diff, which I wouldn't recommend for drag racing regardless of their claims to strength.

It's not the top end HP, but the low end torque you are missing with a centri.

With a centri you want to get the engine up into the top half of the power band as quick as possible, which steeper gears help with.

If it was a turbo or twin screw, then I'd say 3.55's all day and I plan on running 3.31 or 3.08's in my 800hp whipple project (Ford went with a 3.31 in the 2013 GT500's) . But with a centri you'll have more fun with 3.73's or 4.10's

Are you squeezing out of the hole? If so, you can go down in gear ratio to 3.55s.

As you mention yourself, it also depends on the power you are making and the torque curve on your dyno sheet. Every car is different. Hell, I have 4.11s, but on a 29.5 tall tire and only a 1.80 first gear (power glide) and still 60' in the very low 1.3Xs, but because I have the power.

On the rearend, I had great luck with a detroit locker. Very dependable at the track.

True Track with stock axles 3:73 gears amd a 28" tire.

Far as the wave track goes I know a guy that has broken 3 of them at 700 or so horsepower.

I would advise against the Wavetrac as well, for a few reasons from personal experience.

I'm making a fair amount of power and I went with the Trutrac and 4.10's. I would suggest 3.73's at least. With a centri and 3.55's I think you'll be a bit disappointed at the track.

Just because someone has power doesn't mean they have to go to the track. Just sayin. ;-)
