I just picked up a '09 GT Coupe w/ a 5 speed. The first thing I want to do is change the shifter. OEM 2nd to 3rd leaves much to be desired. Being a Boomer that came of car-age in the late 60's I tend toward a retro style stick. My driving style is daily cruising w/ occasional gear banging- no competition. I've looked on-line at various reviews (AM has been a great resource) and here is what I've collected.
Hurst Comp Plus- Seems to be the best value. Has the right kind of stick w/ ball included. The reviews mention occasional noise/vibration issues but overall a good choice.
Hurst Comp Billet- Again complete package, slightly more expensive but many noise/ vibration issues. That is surprising.
Roush Performance 5-Speed Short Shifter- Basic shifter is priced low but to get the look I want I have to add $100.00 of accesories (ROUSH billet arm and ball). However the reviews are excellent.
Steeda Tri-Ax- Good reviews but notchy w/ a short stick. Again, I have to add $100.00 of accesories (Billet Pro Street Shifter Handle with White Shift Knob).
Barton 5-Speed Short Shifter- Pricey w/ rave reviews but it includes an OEM and flat stick. At it's price they should be included. Looks real clean w/ the stock boot.
MGW Flat Stick Shifter- A little pricey but users rave about this one, best thing since sliced Bread. Complete without reusing any OEM parts. It has adjustable throw but I'm not really sure of that value for daily driving. Options are color of stick and either OEM or Hurst ball thread.
That about does it on my research. It would be welcome if anyone can add to this or give me some direction/feedback.
TIA,
Mike
