I dont mind the loudness but my wife does. It is more the loud raspiness that gets to me. Really drones in the car. Plus, I swear I wake the neighbors when I start up at 6am.

If its to loud.... Hows it go... Oh yea "Your to old"
actually.. 'If its too loud, your too young' is more like it. the louder it is, the younger the owner is..![]()

fwiw i hear that the stockers on a LT o.r. setup sound pretty damn good
AGREE!!
The 4.6 2v and 4v motors also sound really nice with that set up. Seems like the 3v was not ment to have that great sound.
I wonder why?? What are the variables?? Maybe the muffler placement??

think of it like this
guitar has 6 strings, 3 is a multiple of 6
bass has 4 strings, 2 and 4 are multiples of 4
though guitars can sound awesome, its the bass that has that low rumble everyone loves (and yes i am aware that there are 5 and 6 string basses)
also why sixxers, though they can sound pretty badass, have a hard time getting that 8 cylinder note
In reagards to 2V & 4V 4.6's pre S197, the difference bieng the mufflers are under neath the cabin and the tail pipes are long, giving it a deeper tone. The S197 has the muffs behind the axle, this is great for reducing drone but it changed the sound of the Mustang as we KNEW it.
At first i felt just like you did about the sound of an S197 but now that its grown on me, i think the 3V sounds better especially with a lili exhuast work and particularly with Cams. 2V & 4V cammed engines go: Bada, bada, bada, bada. Cammed 3V go: Bagada, Bagada, Bagada, Bagada
3V FTW!
Ive heard this set up on the Dyno, its sounds great, really mean and not nearly as quite as you would think yet very tolerable, OP may want to try that, every one has stock muffs lying around so they can be had for cheap, just need to weld on bigger tips.
Comparing exhaust sounds to a musical instruments octave range is a bit weird. Bad analogy.
I know that their are plenty of variables to a cars sound, my question was in regards to the 96-04 mod motors vs. our S197 3v mod motors. I guess it has to do with the muffler placement.
Ironically I ran into an lx hatchback with exhaust work today on the way home , and I have to say that I really miss that sound.
Doesn't Pypes pr Mac make a mid muffler system for our cars??
Has anybody tried it??
