BG writeup 8.84 @ 152 1.349 60ft

Figured I would give my write up of the Bowling Green trip. What an experience, everybody we met out there was awesome. For finishing the car a little over a month ago and only having 1 full pass on it before heading out I think we did ok. The 2nd and 3rd full passes ever on the new setup happened in BG. We had problems hooking which we expected with no testing and stock front suspension. If we tried to launch on more than 5psi the car will pull the front wheels then just smolder the tires, Kelly from BMR was spot on in his predictions. I only have a dual stage manual boost controller as well so as soon as I let off the brake the 2nd stage hits almost instantly and the car just couldn't put down an instant 15psi after launch. We learned a few things. I need to do a lot more testing, need some DA front struts, and for an event like this I need a boost controller that has ramping functions. 5psi to 15psi in an instant doesn't work for sticking the power. Losing first round sucks, but losing to a buddy made it much easier to take. We both gave it our all and he advanced.

All that said we did a 8.849 @ 152.23 with a 1.349 60ft and qualified 3rd. To say the car has more left in it would be a gross understatement. When we can launch with more pressure and hook more pressure down track this thing will fly! With the driver having no experience in the 8's and only one pass in the 9's it was probably more than I was comfortable with anyhow. Next year we will come out swinging, and I think BG will happen again. The Colorado crew had way too much fun out there for this not to happen again.

I want to give some thanks to some people that without their help the car wouldn't be what it is and we would have never made it to event without their help. Getting a chance to be there and thank them face to face, shake a hand, share a beer and do some bs'n was incredible.

Lund Racing and Power by the Hour - Thank you guys for building a badass kit and for tuning it in. It is pretty obvious the stock kit with the base turbos has some stupid potential. Wanted to give you guys a better show out there but now we gave a hint of what the car/kit can do. Once I get the suspension, driver, and boost control dialed in this car will be a threat...and we will be back in BG next year. Thanks for hanging out at Chuy's and giving the Colorado crew a chance to meet the Lund/PBTH camp. Definitely a good time getting to meet you all and chat over some margs.

Jon/Slagburn - Thanks for all the work on the car man. From the trans swap to the motor and turbo kit install it just would not have happened without your help. The arm twisting on making the BG trip wasn't a bad idea either. The car would still just be an empty shell with a bunch of nice parts scattered on the floor if you hadn't taken part in the build.

L&M Engines - You guys build a badass engine. I won't go into detail on some of my personal screwups (ok, will share one, I screwed up the boost controller and the motor saw 24psi on its 2nd dyno pull ever). With all that I have done to this thing the motor has survived and happily taken more. All the time you and your wife spent on the phone with me answering questions, giving suggestions, and making sure I was taken care of was great. The motor was another piece to the puzzle that made this whole project a success.

JPC - Thank you for all the great parts and deals over the past 2 years. Thanks for all the info and chats when I would call in to get suggestions and had questions on what the car was doing and what the next best step was. Also huge thanks for getting my chute kit ready and bringing it to BG when I know you guys already had your hands full trying to get your car done.

Clinton - Thanks for all the help out there and thanks for sharing the driving on the 20hr trip straight thru. The drive was a bitch but was much better with a copilot. Thanks for all the help prepping the car before the track, at the track, and in the lanes. Definitely not a 1 man operation anymore so your help was priceless. I know sacrifices were made to help me and it is greatly appreciated!

BMR - Thanks for all of the help and info. Late night PM's, etc. I know very little about suspension and your feedback has been great. You nailed what the car was doing and how it would react when turned up. Now we know what I need and I'll be hitting you up over the winter to get ready for next year.

Lastly I just want to thank everybody I met out there. Thanks to Beefcake for the past orders and for taking the time in BG to just BS and get to know each other. The internet is full of assholes, but you are good at what you do and it shows. Your car will haul ass with the glide! Thanks to the Evo camp for taking the time to show Jon and I the Green Goblin and chat about things in general. It was great meeting your crew and really appreciate Nelson giving us the walk around of the cars. Thanks to Fred for the recommendation on the railroad tracks, we tried our best but just couldn't get that to happen.

Thanks to Sid for the pizza at the Mello Mushroom, that was some great stuff. The beer and pizza hit the spot after standing out in the rain all day. Was a great chance to meet some other people from the forum as well. Thanks to Omar for offering to roll some video while we were pinched on support when our guys were out running for ice. I'm sure I'm missing some people and will throw more in here along the way, but this really was an incredible trip. Not very often you get the chance to go 1200 miles to not only race but to hang out with people from all over the country that helped get you there. Now I can say I've seen first hand the fastest 2011+ coyotes in the nation as well. Man...what a trip!

What tire were you on? Just curious. And I take it this was at 15PSI?

Bud it was nice chatting with you and Jon both you guys are so calm and cool I need some of that to rub off on me Lol.. both of your cars are super nice and fast I was impressed how well you both did for making the long trip. hope to se yall again it was fun while it lasted. good luck and the sky is the limit make them cars fly!!!

I keep wondering if it was great or stupid. I need more experience and I just got the fast track. Crazy how on the 9.03 up here I was just along for the ride and had no clue what the car was doing. A half track pass out there and the two good passes in the 8's I was much more comfortable and in tune with what the car was doing.

I need to put in a map sensor to log but this car has a ton left in it. I may be getting greedy but new goals are 8.50 on the mountain and some stupid number at sea level

Got up at 5:30 Monday to get to the track early, raced all day, then left that night and drove 18hrs straight thru overnight and got home around 2pm yesterday. Unloaded and went to sleep...for a very long time...haha

We got some vids and pics, once we get them uploaded I'll be sure to post them.


Edit: Here is a nice vid of the 2nd round of qualifying. Jon/Slagburn was near lane in the first run, I was far lane in the 3rd run. We qualified 3rd and 6th....not bad for a couple of non-shop cars all the way from CO

I think 8.50 is a good number based on what the car has already done.
