Wix filters are great. I also use Mobil 1 but I try to keep my intervals at about 6-7K miles. I think by 10K the filter has long since been packed full and most of the oil flow goes through the bypass.

Could be, I can tighten up the interval a little bit.
I'm gonna bubba it back together tomorrow so it can run since it's due for a smog check and keep the mileage down until I decide what I want to do with the car.
It's kind of needed a lot of attention for what was supposed to be the trouble free daily driver, I just haven't posted about it all here because the repairs were straight forward.

I am not saying other makes of engine wouldn't be totally happy at that interval of oil change with synthetic but these 3V motors I would never do it based on what I have seen and what I have experienced personally. FL820S filters, a quality 5w-20 oil and 5K interval changes if highway driving and 3K if you drive it hard.

I'd recommend at minimum getting a new cam and follower, possibly a lifter

Running that longer will wind up putting more shavings into the oil

I had the same problem happen on mine, but it was one roller on the passenger side. Just replaced all the rollers and lifters on that cylinder (3) and replaced the PS Cam. Runs great. That was 20,000 miles ago.

I think the PO went too long on intervals. I change every 3K miles.

All I needed was the new parts and the phaser bolt, and the chain wedge (I have that for sale in the marketplace here)

About a 2 hours job.

That sucks that this happened, but with that said I would never go longer then 5k oil changes on synth. I dont care what the bottle claims....lol
Also just because you drive alot of miles daily doesnt mean you should skimp on maintenance. Thats the price you pay for driving so much daily.

I always change my oil around 3-4k miles with full synth.

Another vote for more frequent oil changes. The owner's manual calls for 7500 mile intervals and that assumes "normal service." Which means highway drives for 10+ miles each way, no racing, avoiding freezing temps and desert heat, no idling/stop and go traffic, etc. If monthly Mobil1 oil changes get expensive it would be better to run the "plain jane" Motorcraft synthetic blend and change every 5k instead of M1 synthetic every 10k.

I also agree with Wes in that you need to at least replace the cam, follower and consider a new lifter. And if you decide to keep the car I would go back in and do the timing chains & guides since you'll be racking up miles quickly. Wear & tear is just part of driving. Everyone seems to have the funds when it's their second time going through the same job.
