Body sealer?

Rebuilding the car. While I have the running gear out, I'm taking the time to clean up, fix and coat the underside bits I never got to in the past.

One thing I've always hated was the slop-shod way the body seam sealer was applied, so I'm scraping it off and going over the seams properly.

Trying to figure out what sealer I want to go with, though. I believe Ford used TA-2, but it's like $40 a tube. I know, I know, I'm being a cheapskate, especially considering the coin I'm putting out in this effort, but Ford's manufacturing goops aren't always the best.

Anyone have experience with anything else? I see Eastwood has a seam sealer and it's only $20.

No experience with body sealer but 3M makes a product too. Post pics of your work.

I used 3M seam sealer when I fixed my floorpan, but I've never used seam sealer before so I don't know what the difference is.

Yeah, I bought some of the 3M tubes for something else but will see how they go with this. Can't be worse than the cr*p Ford used.

tbh any of the seam sealer will work and hold up just so as long as you prep it and apply it as intended ..
the $20 stuff will seal just as good as the $40.
and regardless of price , if applied correctly , it will outlast the cars life

Remember Ford does not make there own sealer. The vendor that manufactures it is NOT the person that installs it. Your kind of punishing Fords product for a sloppy job done by the builder.

When it comes to the sloppy install, I'm punishing the ogrin who applied it at the factory using their forehead and a 2x4.

When it comes to the compound being like old sponge, that's on whoever makes the goop.

It's equal opportunity glaring on my end.

As for the project, I'm removing a little at a time as I work on other stuff and when I can work on it. So far just using body scrapers but it's coming off well enough. When I get done with all my cleanup and modifications, I'm going to be spraying undercoat or probably just tractor enamel, and I wanted all the seams cleaned up and neat before doing so. Plus there's been at least a dozen places so far where the installer missed sealing the seam 'cause they were probably applying it with a hammer.
