Brake Cooling Kits

Hi guys, I was searching for this topic, but I didn't seem to find anything.

Anyways, I am just wondering what you guys are running for a brake cooling solution?

I was looking at the JLT kit:

Price looks right, but I am concerned that the 2.5" piping diameter might not deliver enough air, and that the front bezels don't really "catch" enough air.

I also took a look at the Agent 47 kit for our cars, it looks damn good, but the price is steep.

This is the write-up of the DIY system I did for myself. $80 complete from bumper to brake outlet.

One catch, if you are (or plan on) running a BBK, you can't use all of the OEM dust shields. I just installed a Stoptech system and I had to cut back the shields to clear the rotors. No problem really, just something to note when you fabricate the outlet tube.

Is anyone using the Agent 47's, as in real use not just show? At the expense of sounding like an idiot, "bigger is better" hold true with their design of the bigger opening that funnels the air down and through the fascia? (I'd need the CS/Shelby GT version if it matters)

I just ran mine last Friday at the track. I had absolutely no issues with the front brakes. No fade, warping, vibrations, etc. Also, the wheels were noticeably cooler after the run than my last track day. But I also have the GT500 front brake setup which helps as well. I installed both since my last event so not a direct review of just the A47 kit benefits.

I really liked the setup, but any cooling will help. Agent 47 is on the steep side and I wasn't going to pay that price - a buddy found my current setup on Craigslist for $200 so I got a lucky steal.

There is also threads on here about fabricating your own if you can work with fiberglass. That would be the cheapest option and you can run 3 inch tubing.

I've been running the for 2+ years. They work very well but I do have to replace the hoses once a year.

Here's the QMS kit. I didn't reinstall the lower facia. Instead, I just made grilles to cover them. The only thing you need besides regular hand tools to install this kit is a hand grinder to widen up the grill openings.

Do you guys put a plug in the intake when driving on the street? I could imagine lots of bugs and other crap getting splattered on the brakes/wheels.

I was just wondering the same thing. Is running a brake cooling kit OK on a DD? I attend auto-X's but the car usually sees DD duties when the weather prevents me from riding one of my motorcycles.

I run mine open year round including the winter. So far I have no indications of any problems.

As well, other cars come with brake cooling from the factory.

I seem to have gotten too lazy to disconnect the tube going out of the inlet. I used to just disconnect it there are tuck it into the front fascia (not really "plugging" it).

I did this because I noticed that driving at night (or through rural areas) I tended to suck up a bunch of bugs and their tiny little splattered bodies would litter the inside of my wheels.

These days you can hardly see them through the brake dust and rubber compound.

I actually forgot to take my hoses off and left them on all winter.. the hoses look like I took a shotgun to them. Tiny holes everywhere. I'm thinking it was from salt spray. Other than that, it's ok to use them on your DD.
