Thanks to my insurance company taking too long with a supplement pay from an accident im going to fix my brakes which were damaged, myself.

I figured I'd do the o'l slotted brakes and Hawk pads deal, but I also stumbled upon these Caliper Covers. I think they look pretty nice and they say it reduces brake dust and such. Anybody have these or what's the general consensus on wether they are ricey or not?

I dont really see how they could, Just research which brake pads you want to get because some dont put off hardly any brake dust at all... and god please do not spend $200 on them things....you could spend 200$ on soemthing well worth the while....:2cents::beer:

Are there any aftermarket calipers that are used with the stock sized rotor?

I dont know, but I dont know why anyone would want to do that because by the time you buy the new calipers and rotors and pads you could spend a couple hundred more and get a big brake kit... If you just put the power slot rotors on your car with some really nice pads you will be impressed its a pretty big differnce.

Well the only reason I wouldnt want the big brakes is because of the trouble running a 15 slick. I don't think the rim would fit over the caliper.

Gotcha.. just buy the power slots and new pads and I think you will be imprssed compared to our crappy stock setup.

Are GT500 brakes larger? I know the rears are but are the fronts?

How many pistons are in the caliper?

our fronts are dual pistons, and yes the gt500 brake system is larger they use brembos and I think you have to run at least a 17 or 18" wheel.

Sorry, I meant the pistons in the GT500 caliper.

This might be a good buy considering how bad my brakes are right now

I think the gt500 fronts are quad pistons and they are hell of a lot better then our sockers but u mentioned 15" wheels it wont happen with gt500 brakes

Changing brakes up front has nothing to do with what wheel size you can run in the back...

GT500 brakes will require 18" wheels up front and not all wheels will fit. I think you need roughly an inch more clearance compared to the stock brakes. Your 18" Bullitts will fit with a 1" spacer and it doesn't look bad at all. I'd comment on how much of a difference they make but I haven't got mine on yet. FWIW, you can find take-off GT500 setups for $500-600; PM Dex and see if he's got any more. They are 4 piston calipers (Brembo F50 style), but I don't think you need to change your master cylinder since the FRPP kits don't make any mention of it.

And in conclusion, you'll probably be happy with a rotor/pad upgrade. I'm just a believer in overkill...

Well when I mentioned 15"s slick I should have also mentioned 15" skinnies for the front:beerdrink:

$400-$500 is what a good pad/rotor combo would cost. I'd much rather throw in an extra $100 and get the 4 piston setup from the Shelby because I want to change out the caliper as well. Mine are scratched up.
Maybe I don't need to change out the master, but would I need a booster of some kind?

Thanks for the info. This is pretty damn helpful.:thumb:

Well there's a trade off. They'll cost less than half of new. But, they generally aren't handled with the greatest of care when they're removed so the calipers may have some dings and scratches (mine are out for powdercoating right now). Expect to repaint or touch them up if you want them looking new. Looks like I'll be in about $300 before mine are like new but you can DIY for well under $100 if you go with paint; which is what I'd do if I were to do it over again.
