I have been thinking of purchasing some Ford racing Hot Rod cams (don't want to lock out VCT or change anything with valve terrain) and either buy some Steeda charge motion delete plates or make my own. I have a friend with a 2009 mustang intake manifold and he is willing to give it to me. Can i buy some Steeda plugs and fit that manifold into my 2008 Mustang gt motor without a problem?

Another option is to leave them. If your tuner is ok with it I'd leave them. They help with part throttle driveability and combustion. You won't gain much if anything with a stock motor by going to deletes. IMO they are a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The stock intake manifold and motor can't flow enough air to justify deletes.

With that said I've made deletes by simply breaking off the valves and gluing the cyndrical parts in place with bearing and sleeve retaining compound.

Either way you will like the Hot Rod cams. Do you have a tuner lined up? If not I'd suggest [email protected] He goes by lito on this forum.

I guess i don't have a reason, other than reading many posts inwhich people put charge motion delete plates with cams. Also, i have read plenty of threads in which the valves break and go into the motor...is that common? I could always buy an new oem take off manifold with alot less miles. My motor is fairly stock other than longtubes and off-road h pipes and suspension mods. Mostly dd

You can't put a price on piece of mind. I've never known anyone who had them break off. I think that if it was an issue it would be a recall from Ford and they would of stopped doing using them.

I can tell you that it takes quite a bit of force to break them off when doing it on purpose with a hammer and punch. I'm trying to remember the intake runners of a stock 3v head, I don't think there is any way a butterfly valve from the imrc could make it to the motor to cause damage.

In any case you could easily buy a take off 2009 or 2010 manifold from www.newtakeoff.com and install the delete plugs.

IMO the biggest advantage of imrc deletes is that it makes tuning easier. Just turn off the digital switch and they no longer exist in the tune. This means that the imrc tables don't have to be accounted for or adjusted.

And steeda underdrive pulleys and being a bullitt it comes with a ford racing cold air and 3.73 and a Bama tune. I have read great things about lito and do have a sct but I'm oblivious to remote tuning

Should i change the timing chains, the phasers and tensioners? The car currently has 133,000 daily driven and maintained very well.

I wouldn't unless the front was already apart or something was giving you problems.

The stock setup works pretty well provided someone hasn't "improved" it with something different that wasn't designed for the system.

Bruce H, you are quick with the replies.. Thanks man, greatly appreciate it. I guess its just my ocd of thinking... If there, might as well replace it. Other than the phaser bolts, should i replace anything else? Thinking of replacing the valve cover gasket or should i just leave it as well?

I'm home with fairly bad arthritis pain today, not much going on so I'm on the forum.

If you have everything apart and have the money for replacements then by all means replace them. A few years ago FRPP was selling a kit that came with all the parts for a reasonable price.

What I was trying to communicate was don't tear apart the motor to fix something that isn't broken.

I usually keep the valve cover gaskets for awhile. About the 5th or 6th time I've taken them off I'll replace them. I go by how much they have stretched and how well they go back into the valve covers. It's not a scientific analysis by any means.

I'm sorry to hear that BruceH, i hope your pain becomes manageable. I guess ill look into the condition of the valve cover gasket. I'm thinking about buying some used Hot Rods locally, other than then looking for the obvious such as scoring, what else should i look for in a used cam? Moreover, is there a part number on the cams?

There is a number on them. A search of this forum should turn up a pic. I'd be looking for obvious stuff like scoring and damaged threads.
