OK driving home from a car show car felt a bit "rough" like a very slight misfire but intermitent. Car has a vortech intercooled all forged internals with a very low [1200] mileage 302 stroker. Went to pass someone and got on the gas with a 3rd gear downshift. During decelleration car starts backfiring real old school about 6 times very rapid succession. After this car dies. no power coasted off made it into a gas station and car will not start, cranks great no grinding sounds or clanking noises it just won't fire. There is no oil on the ground or smell of it in the engine compartment or oil spray either, dipstick looks good. Could I have clipped some plugs? Can't pull em tonight no garage to work in. Input please.
Yeah and before someone else says it cause my wife already did I know I'm a dick for getting on it after feeling it wasn't running right. But as I said it was an intermitent thing and not like a detonation type feeling just a slight hic-up.

Reached in there and the fuel cut off felt like it was in the down position which I assume is the on position it would not depress or "click" when pushed.

Maybe fuel then. If its bad spark keeping it from turning over, then fuel will be pooling and def be notiecable smell wise. Can you hear the pump prime at key on, fuel pressure gauge?

As you can tell i am not a mechanic I turn some of my own wrenches but am limited. The real question is if this sounds like there could be any internal damage? Wolud'nt i hear it if something was cracked or disconected inside the plant?

Try holding the gas pedal to the floor and starting it, especially if you are smelling gas when you are cranking it over.

How long ago was the fuel pump installed?

Not smelling any gas when cranking , fuel pump is 1200 [ 3 1/2 weeks] miles old. Car has been running great no issues at all A/F has been spot on right through the range.

Unplug the maf and try starting it.(dont try to drive it like that, it basicly bypasses the tune) If it starts it is tune error/issue. If it doesnt turnover sounds like a fuel/spark problem. Even though it says a half tank add a couple gallons of fuel. Check all the plugs/cops/connections. If there is fuel and your pressing the gas pedal and it is cranking and doesnt start you should def smell the gas.

if something was broken internally youd know it...youd hear anything from a nice tap to a loud knock.

try disconnecting the battery, let it sit for 20 min and then re-connect the battery.

The fuel cut off switch is inside that small opening and feels like a small rubber button .How hard is it to reset when off? To me it felt like it was as depressed as it could be.
