There is no trick, is a Ford's mistake. I've seen that before.

Your tuner now has the info he needs.

I have been using both sct and diablo back and forth for the last 4 1/2 years and havent had this problem, guess I'm a lucky one, the diablo will write over an sct tune but the sct doesnt have that ability, not sure why that is, wonder if you can reload the diablo tune then flash back to stock again if that would help?

I would ask him what option he used. He could have used the option, I believe it's called "factor stock". This will not unlock the tuner. The option "original back-up" unlocks the tuner.

i did he can't remember it's been three weeks though since we pulled the tune off and had started work on the car.

That very well could be the problem. I would ask him to plug in the diablo and check for last tune written.

well he aint gonna be in the shop til tuesday thanks to monday being a holiday. plus the tuner is at my house. anycase things will be sorted out one way or another just once is going to cost be a few hundred bucks

the issue has been resolved....

so my car is a 2006 as being a 2006 it doesn't have the lastest pcm software well i guess the diablo takes it upon itself to "change" and install the newest software so when it revert it back to stock the little sticker that says te software is obviously wrong so thats why the sct wasnt working with modified tunes.

either way it'd be nice if diablo would specify its going to permenantly alter the pcm code.

So let me understand this.. You put the car back to stock and b/c with the new software (firmware updates i'd guess from diablo? ) it changed or messed with your pcm code. So when you got the tune ready from SCT with the code from your ecu - it was wrong because the new software from diablo changed that?
How did you fix all that?

no the reason the tune is being removed is i don't really like diablos tuner to begin with, and i got some parts that require serious tuning not just some canned tune. the shop that is doing all the work on my car is an sct dealer and as such aren't going to waste money to use diablo as frankly i think its an inferior product plagued by many problems.

what the tuner doesn't tell you is that along with what ever canned tune you apply to the car it updates the software/firmware on the ecu. there's a sticker on the ecu that tells you what the firmware it came with from the factory. the shop tuning my car didn't know it would do such a modification which is iriversable to fix using a diablo tuner. so basically they were tuning for the incorrect ecu software which obviously is going to prevent it to run cause the ecu isn't going to understand the parameters. so once they found out what the diablo tuner had done they were able to compensate for the newer firmware installed by the diablo and get the car running with a start up tune.

there's nothing saying that the diablo tner is going to do such a thing so obviously it's going to make tuning a car a nightmare and which i'm sure is why dozens of people have had the same issue adn have had to go to a ford dealer to get that firmware put back on the ecu in order to retune it.

in short the fix was to tune for the newer ecu software

thats the best i could explain from what i was told and understand

Whoa..Thats pretty insane. I never updated my predator when I got it or since then it's still on the firmware it came with lol. But i just put my stock tune back on the car and waiting for a tune from my tuner for SCT. I wonder if i'm going to have that problem or if it's going to be an issue

Yeah that is pretty crazy. I have an 06 as well. When I first installed the Procharger it came with a Diabolo tuner and tune. Ran that for 2 years. Built the motor and switched to an SCT Xcal3 and had no issues doing so.

Read the whole thing, that is pretty messed up. I have an 05 with a predator that came with the vortech kit and been itching to switch to either sct or sniper because of the lack of tuners that deals with diablo around my area. Now I'm concerned if I'm going to have the same issue but at least now I know where to start if it comes up. Glad to hear your car is running!

I want to put the blame where the blame is and even there are lot of things I dislike about the diablo products (specially its CMR, and I dislike a few things about SCT too I am a dealer of both and tune with both platforms), this was no DS fault.

It was a Ford's mistake in the middle of the run of '06s, the PCM hardware changed and that required a new strategy but they forgot to change the run of the stickers applied to the PCM so the sticker and the flash content of the PCM is different.

The predator does not upgrade anything, it reads the calid that is flashed and generates a file over it, saves the stock file and flashes the new file, but it is always the same strategy, there is no upgrade.

Not every 06 manual car has that problem but this is not the first one: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php/146602-Sct-X3-Tuner-Now-Car-Wont-Start

Glad it worked out, I was pretty sure that that was the issue.

oh boy.... well any case i'm extremely happy it doesn't need to go down to a dealer and what not. i'll get the car sooner cause of this. mehcanically the car is finished all it needs is some proper tuning

thanks to lito for his explanation. i was kind of wondering about the predator updating the pcm's software. that really didn't sound right to me, but i'm no expert, of course.

I've gone back and forth between the Ford Racing tune on the ProCal tool and custom tunes on my diablosport without any issue. I just reset to original and swap devices. My car was made in Jan 2006.
