I went to TPS today with a buddy to get his 2010 GT500 retuned. After his car was done we had some time to kill so we did some testing on my car. I ordered the KB Mammoth filter a couple months ago but never put it on so we did some back to back pulls to see what it would gain. All the pulls were done on my street tune which is 20 psi, 16* timming, and coolant temps were the same.

1st Pull: Stock Air Filter that came with original KB Kit
20.2 psi. @ 6500 rpm
Coolant Temp. 192 degrees
16 degrees of spark
Pulled from 3500-6500 rpm
IAT was 102 degrees at 6500 rpm
650 rwhp @ 6529 rpm
550 rwtq @ 6180 rpm

2nd Pull: No Air Filter just 4" inlet tube behind front bumper
20.0 psi. @ 6500 rpm
Coolant Temp. 191 degrees
16 degrees of spark
Pulled from 3500-6500 rpm
IAT was 106 degrees at 6500 rpm
636 rwhp @ 6535 rpm
527 rwtq @ 6240 rpm

3rd Pull: Kenne Bell Mammoth Air Filter mounted behind front bumper
21.3 psi. @ 6500 rpm
Coolant Temp. 193 degrees
16 degrees of spark
Pulled from 3500-6500 rpm
IAT was 96 degrees at 6500 rpm
658 rwhp @ 6440 rpm
561 rwtq @ 6091 rpm

The stock filter showed to be a slight restriction at 20 psi. as we picked up about 1.1 psi. The big difference was on the ride home when monitoring the IAT's at cruising speed. Cruising 55 mph IAT stayed steady at 140 degrees. On way back with new filter it never got over 122 degrees while cruising at 55 mph.

So the bigger the air filter the lower the IAT's. In your case that is

From the testing yes it lowered the IAT's at WOT and cruising. We ran the car heat soaked just to be sure the numbers we were getting were accurate to compare upon and it was 6 to 10 degrees cooler at WOT.

What fuel do you run with that 20psi street tune?

93 octane. We kept the spark low at 16 degrees. We ran the car on the dyno with no fans and heat soaked as possible and made pulls with no hint of detonation. We spent a good amount of time to be sure we were safe with that much boost on 93 octane.

I thought it was mixed gas?!?!?!.......I could have sworn I seen him pour weed-eater gas in that thing.....

Dang it your giving away all my secrets...

93 all day long ............

Correct!!

87 Octane!!!!! :bong: Isn't that the standard for boosted engines?

No.. it's not. There are quite a few argument threads on here on the subject of maximum PSI on 93 octane (which general concisus from "tuners" is around 16~17 PSI). That was why I asked.

I am actually thinking about a 25 psi. tune for 93 octane and a race tune. The 21 psi. tune is really safe as we tested it with 20 degrees of spark with the car being heat soaked.

No airfilter was the lowest numbers? Is this sort of like a car needs some exhaust back pressure?

Actually those results were expected after talking to Jim Bell a couple months ago when I ordered the filter. The 4" pipe alone doesn't have the surface area that the filter provides. The filter also lets the air turn better due to the transition in the filter. I saw a difference in MAF Counts but do not remember what they were exactly.

Motor is 9.3:1 compression ratio. I attached a sheet from the last dyno pull the other night.
