I just found out that my track started enforcing fire jackets for non OEM power adder cars. I'm not sure if its a single tech doing the enforcing or all of them.

I'm looking at the Gforce jackets. Do they run small? I'm 6'0 225 lbs.

Our track is requiring them for anything faster than 12.49 and a cage for 11.49 or faster along with a snell 2005 approved helmet for anything faster than 12.99.

I got a hell of a deal on my new helmet. Normally $185 and got it new for $120 shipped. Here is a pic.

I got one of these when the track started giving me grief. The sizes do run larger though...

I was going to get one sooner or later. What helmet do I need for a car with a bar? I'm not sure the M helmets will pass.

Shouldn't matter what kind of helmet it is as long as it meets the safety standards of snell 2005 and DOT. Hell, half the guys run open face at our track or MX helmets..lol

Interesting, their tech was pretty loose the few times I went there last year.

I have a G-Force SA2005 rated helmet. I could be wrong but "M" helmets are motorcycle helmets, right? Here's some info:

Key differences between M and SA Rated Helmets (from Snell website):
SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not.
SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.
SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets aren't street legal).

I wear fire retardent clothing for work purposes and I'm not a big fan of proban.
Proban is a chemical treatment which is applied to a cotton garment.
It loses its effectiveness after 30-40 washings.
It also loses its effectiveness depending on what is used to wash it.

Nomex is a permanently fire retardant Aramid fiber.
It is woven, or knitted into material, and since it is inherently fire retardant its protection does not diminish with time.

THey are the ones that told me my helmet expired. They let me slide that day. A friend of mine was there opening day and would not let him run without a jacket.

Is your helmet an open face or closed?

Not positive, but I think the SA's are required for higher speed applications. Not sure what speed that it becomes a requirement, but I guess you can't go wrong with just getting a SA.
