Hey guys, I have a pretty rusty mustang im working on and I expected the driveshaft to not give me as much of a hassle, but it is.
Please tell me the best way to get this driveshaft off the diff flange? Im going to pull the diff down and install a trutrac and 3.55 gears.

I thought having the 2 center bolts loose as well to give it room to breathe would help, but yeah it's not moving at all.
I was going to soak it in kroil all night and try again tomorrow morning, If anyone has any suggestions please chime in before I take a hammer to it.

Thanks!

ohh yes i remember this happening to me when i put 4.10 in my rear this past spring , ,

put the top bolt back in just enough so the drive shaft wont fall on your face, but loose as heck so there is plenty of wiggle room ,

take a dead blow and whack it ,, its just rusted on thats it,,

you may help yourself by spraying some PB blaster to help break up the rust..

it will break free i assure you.

oh and fyi ,, you really gotta whack it ,

im no small dude and i had to really lay into it,, i didnt have PB blaster at the time tho

Thanks guys I sprayed it with Kroil last night, so hopefully it will be a bit nicer when I go beat it with a 4lb dead blow.

@whitmanink Do you have any tips or gotchas with the ring gear swap? Did you change the posi too?
I'm doing a full rebuild, I got a motive master kit, but I'm going to use a raytech 4105 solid spacer bearing instead of using the crush bearing, since they are more reliable when road racing and this thing will seeing some track time. Do you want to come help me, it's been like 20 years since I rebuilt a rear diff.

it separates where your red arrow is ,in the other pic,,,fyi

as far as the rear end change?
i have some posts here of the problem i had just beating the froze pinion out,,
other than that it was pretty much measure shims and do some math and check with yelllow paste and send it,,

yes i rebuild my trac loc as well ,,,
chrisfix on youtube has a video doing that ,,, pretty straight forward

you do need some special tools to check run out and measure shim thickness,,

i always help people in my area if they need and ask for it,,
id help you as well but im in PA so all i can do is answer any questions you may have ..

get ready for a 2 hour job to take infinity :) thats the car way lol
