Hey guys, after 104,000 miles of hard driving and over 100 track passes my stock clutch finally exploded. Luckily I bought a new Exedy Mach 500 off of another forum member not too long ago.
I've been searching and it looks like alot of people run the exedy clutches with the stock flywheel so I ordered a new take off incase my stock one was bad. I put the exedy clutch disc on the flywheel and it looks like the disc extends past the inner surface area. I know this is why most people get a different flywheel when running the McLeod clutches but thought there was no overhang on the exedy.
I saw one person had an issue with cutch disengagement, the disc was cathching a little on the inside edge of the flywheel. So I would feel more comforable with full contact area of the disc instead of running it with the stock flywheel.
What is the cheapest flywheel that will have more inner surafce area? Some have mentioned the ford racing flywheel but I have no idea which one and the part number. Would a stock 99-04 flywheel work or is it only the aftermarket ones that have more inner surface area?
Here are pics of what I'm talking about with the exedy disc and a piece of my exploded disc.
