High flow with big intake runners = lazy heads. High flow with small intake runners = great heads. To really get the VE up you need good flow at low lift. Let the air's velocity fill the chamber. That makes for good VE.

Doing R & D on your own dime sucks. I did something very similar on my Firebird a while ago.

Wasn't all my dime but a lot of it was. He who wins is usually he who has the most $$$. Amazing how that works.

Seriously the bud of mine who used to do pro stock heads preaches it's all about VE as you state, swirl, and average flow within the lift of the cam. I've seen him take a solid billet of aluminum and make heads for Bob Norwood when Bob was trying to design an alternative engine design for top fuel. Not sure what Bob's exact degree is but he writes automotive textbooks and does papers/presentations at SAE meetings. He's a god among the Ferrari crowd and they throw major bucks his way.

When either one of them talks, I just shut up n listen. SpongeDenny SquarePants soaking it all up.

Still would like to see a flow sheet with intake volume numbers. Sure I'll eventually get my wish. Sounds like a lot of people are getting on the ported head train as it chugs and gathers steam. Sure it has nothing to do with $$$.
