Hey there!

I hate to bump up such an old thread, but for any DIY people chasing a similar issue, I wanted to say that this thread helped immensely, and hope my story helps the next person.

- I bought my 2011 last month.
- Previous owner had the car only about a year. He replaced the fuel pump during that period.
- I've put about 500 miles on the car without issue. Until...
- At just under 1/2 tank, I stopped to fill it up. After only a few gallons, I started hearing gas just pouring out underneath the car. I could see it was running down the side of the tank on the driver's side of the car.
- It eventually slowed to a trickle, then drip, all over about 10 minutes. I had the car towed home. When the car was inclined on the rollback while getting on and off, it dumped some more fuel on the ground (all on the driver's side).
- Strong smell of fuel inside the car.
- Turning key on and off didn't change the leak, so I knew it wasn't pressure related (re; not a fuel line)

After reading this thread and describing my exact problem with some of the same specific details, and knowing the previous owner had the lock rings off recently, it led me to start diagnosing by checking under the back seats.

Sure enough, the driver's side lock ring was completely loose with some pooled gas around it.

I realized the rings were supposed to slide under the tabs, then past the notch so it lined up in the middle, which locked it in place. The passenger side was just snugged down, but not past that notch. I figured he did the same on both; using the ol' "hammer and screwdriver" method instead of the lock ring tool, he pounded them down securely but not locked, so that they stayed snug for awhile, which is why neither of us had an issue for awhile, but the driver's side eventually worked loose. It would only be a matter of time before the passenger side did the same.

I was able to get both properly seated. After a full tank and a hard rip around town, not a single drop.

Thanks for the wonderful community and assistance with getting this problem fixed! I appreciate all of you. :)
