grinding noise

so i put in a mcload rst clutch and fidenza aluminum flywheel a while back and now i have a weird grinding noise. im not sure it is the clutch but i feel like it most likely is because that is all i have changed recently.

what is happening is that when ever i have my car in a gear that is to high for the speed im going i hear the horrific noise when i accelorate. it sound like i missed a gear but it is in gear. but there is no sound if the rpm's are high and i accelerate.

i thought i had fixed the problem when i was under the car checking for loose bolts and i found the bolt that connects the shifter to the transmission about ready to fall out. but after tightening it and driving the car it did not help it at all.

the one thing i have not checked is i had a bolt break off on my diff cover and it leaked a bit till i got it fixed they put a helicoil or what ever it called where the bolt broke and stripped but im not sure of what lube they put back it in and all that or if it is full enough. so i was wanting to check this but i don't know of any other way to check its level besides taking it all off and putting new fluid in.

im just wondering what could be the cause of this and any ideas on what else to check.

The best way to change and check the level of fluid is by removing the differential cover.

From what I read though it sounds like the grinding noise is coming from your clutch and flywheel. Did you change the slave cylinder when your swapped clutches? Also did you upgrade to to steel hydraulic line? Or are both still the original?

it is the oem salve cylinder but the line are SS

Did you replace the slave cylinder when you swapped to the McLeod?

i had a sound like that once, it was the seals on my throw out bearing going bad. i was driving from orlando to killeen and the only way to not hear the noise was to keep it in gear so my rpm's were above 3,500. such a pain in the ass.
i hope this isn't your case.

edit: how many miles did you have on your clutch and flywheel? this happened to me about 1,000miles after break-in

But I also changed the throw out bearing when I did ever thing else

yeah, so did i. i'm not sure if what happened to me was normal, but my buddy replaced his clutch recently and his throw out bearing is toast.
get it checked out bro, that's not a good sound. i really don't think it's your diff if the grinding noise is coming from the front. go to a shop so you can get a free inspection, haha

Nah, I'm sure it's his clutch... If it was coming from the rear you would know it and it would be constant.

Well I took the car to a shop today and all they want to do is rebuilt the tranny for 2700 bucks...lol (now that we have all had a good laugh we can move on)

Should I just tear it back down to the clutch and fly wheel. Because I'm worried I will do that and I'm not going to know what is wrong still and waisted a bunch of time for nothing. Last option buy a junkyard 3650 and throw it in and hope it works?

Any one got a better idea on how to approach this

I was just thinking and what happens when a pilot bearing goes out. I replaced mine but....I'm not 100% on the degree of accuracy it was put back in with. Could it not be fully in place. Or would that make a completely different sound then what I have
