Header Install

Installing a set of shorty headers next week (just put a off road x-pipe on). Using stage 8 locking bolts, any tricks or anything I should be aware off before I do the install in my driveway?

BTW, before you guys start, the headers where really cheap and will be only on there until next year when I do the Kooks LT's.

I use Nord-locks. They are the greatest thing ever.

Well, already got the Stage 8's on the way, next time I'll try these. But I sure can use them on some job related projects!

We keep them around the shop as well.

If you're getting LT's next year, you should either sell/return the shorty headers you got.

Nah, I sell them and off road x one I got the LT's on. This way I know the difference first hand, like research project.....................

Installing them in your driveway shouldnt be too bad. You are going to have to pull out the steering shaft, and jack up the motor to remove passenger side motor mount. Then it should be all up hill from there. The shortys are a lot easier than long tubes.

When I installed longtubes I removed the starter, motor mounts/brackets, and jacked the motor up so Im assuming the same can be done with shorties. Didn't have to touch the steering shaft...

Which brand did you go with, IMO shorty's are just as much a PITA as long tubes to install.

Dunno the brand I got them from againstallodds1 on this forum, they are SS, 1 3/4"(?) tubing and equal length

use OEM studs!!! they work the best for clamping force, ive had my headers on for quite a while with oem gaskets and they have never leaked or backed off..

Check the weather cause the first set I did in the driveway it started raining halfway through. Make sure you have a swivel and extensions of different sizes. Harbor Frieght has some strange ratchets that I found made it easier

I am about to install a set of headers myself and plan on using Remflex gaskets.

Which aftermarket gaskets are you referring too?

Would be cheaper to re-use the OEM gaskets.
