Any reason why? Just looking for all the info I can get to make the most worthwile purchase for the long term. I know if I went up to the $200-300 bracket there are many more choices in full face but my budget doesn't allow for that right now and probably won't unless I get seriously into racing.

I guess that makes sense Diabolical. Not that I don't believe what you are saying but do you have any info or stats you can point me to that show the difference in head and neck injuries between full face and open face helmets in auto racing accidents? Or is the chin hitting your chest vs broken neck more of an assumption? Either way it makes some sense now that you mention it. Also isn't that what a HANS device is for? That is something I could always add later if I felt the need to. Hmmm...the decisions.

This is all great info though. Thanks again everyone.

Debris...do you want stuff hitting you in the face in a serious accident? Fire, an open face isnt going to offer the same protection. Imo if you are after the sa2010 helmet then get the one that is going to offer max protection within a realistic budget.

I base my opinion on the injuries I've seen to motorcycle riders (which I understand is a whole different set of circumstances, but it's effective). Can't point to any official stats.

How fast do you plan on going?

As fast as my stock 2013 GT can take me. And as of right now I have no future plans for performance upgrades, but a supercharger would probably be where I would go in the distant future.

Also I do understand where you are coming from Diabolical with the motorcycle injuries.

Personally with your goals id stick to the HJC CL16

Thanks for the recommendation. Right now it is between that and the Pyrotect Open Face SA2010 helmet. Hope to make a decision by tomorrow. Thanks for all the info on this.

I'm probably the odd guy out, but in a car that is 10.00 and slower, I like open face helmets. Sure, there is more risk with an open face vs a closed. I'm willing to take that risk though.

I use an open face helmet and I'm not worried either. I figure the airbags will light off in case of a front impact .. I don't see it making much difference in a rollover .

As far as concern for the open face snapping ones neck .. I'd hazard a guess that if you had an impact that would cause neck injury,, a full face would snap ones neck in the same situation .. You'd need a HANS device to keep your head attached to your shoulders..

Don't get me wrong, I wear full face helmets when I ride a bike. I actually hit a dog years ago and smacked the pavement face 1st .. Busted the face shield and sken't my knees and elbows really good but other than that, I walked away from it. I also don't like bugs in my teeth ...

This part is pure vanity, but I also think I look goofy as hell in an open face helmet, lol.
