guys my girlfireind bought an 05 gt yesterday, super clean car exept when you get right up on it. it looks like there could be rust spots forming through the paint. there are no rock chips on the car so it doesnt appear to be a bad touch up job. im hoping its just red tree sap. but you cannot feel it with your finger nail. have any of you seen this sort of thing? and how do i remove it without messing up the clear coat. i will post pics when i get off of work. thanks for any help.

Sounds like some sort of environmental fall out. Interesting that you cannot feel it when running your hand over the paint. Try clay barring the paint in a section and see if that helps? Hopefully you won't have to resort to wet sanding.

If it is rust - Does the car have any extended warranty left from Ford?

GallopingFord beat me to it, i've seen paint bubbling before on aluminum panels and it was caused by surface contamination prior to the paint at the assembly plant as explained in the TSB posted above

I forgot about this, but I work at a Ford dealership and someone just brought a 07 GT500 with the bubbling in the front ledge of the hood. I remembered and pulled this up and helped him get his hood replaced under warranty.

Definitely a great TSB... would hate to have this problem and have to pay out the pocket for it. The only problem is that the 08's and some 09's still have this problem, and to my knowledge the TSB has not been updated for those model years.

Good luck with fixing it though, that is a real pain in the ass to have rust on a car that was made in in the last 10-15 years (if treated correctly).

Had this problem about 3-4 years ago with my '05, dealership fixed it no questions asked and never had another issue

Sadly considering the OP's car is a 2005. I don't think he's getting the dealer to do this...

I'd highly recommend washing the vehicle with your normal wash. Give it a really good wash. Than use Car Pro Iron X. Just spray the vehicle with the Iron-X and than agitate it with a wash mitt. Throw the mitt away since you're going to be pulling iron containments from the paint!

I have this happening on both of our 2006 mustangs. Both cars have 37000 miles on them. Aren't the paint warranties 5 years and 100,000 miles?
