Hey so im taking the stang out to the track for the first time (06 gt manual).. Can anyone give me a range where I should drop the clutch? I tried at 1500 rpms..little wheel hop..not bad. 2000 rpms alot of wheel hop. 2500 rpms was smooth, slight chirp of the tires and a little smoke but nothing insaine. So would 2500ish be the best way? stock tires.
I have a stage 1+ clutch, Mgw short shifter. plus exhaust.
Thanks alot.

looks like 2500 is the best for you. you want a little wheelspin to get the rpms up but not much. what mods do you have done??

and dont just "drop the clutch". let out of it smoothly, like your left foot stepped in dog crap and your picking your foot off of it.

+1. It's all about finessing the clutch release and feeding just enough throttle. Don't hammer either, learn to work them and you won't have hop or wheel spin. Try holding the revs to about 3-4K rpm's, then slowly let out the clutch as you ease into the throttle. That always seemed to work well on my stick shift Mustangs (03 Mach 1, 00 GT, 89 5.0L, etc.).

Jeff and Brian are spot on. Unless your car is setup to run on a drag radial you will never hook by simply dumping the clutch. Its all about a smooth release while appying the throttle. The smoother and quicker you get the better the car will launch. When you get it right you will hear the tires chirping on the edge of traction but you will be moving forward.

"let out of it smoothly, like your left foot stepped in dog crap and your picking your foot off of it." LOL That's awesome!

When you stage just plant your foot on the gas and slip your other off the clutch as soon as the lights hit. For bests times do not lift off the gas. Warning:technique requires a sticky tire and balls.
