Good afternoon fellow forum members I don't post a whole lot due to a busy schedule but I figured I would share some of what's going on in my garage lately. So I had Atlanta Speed Shop assist me on a 5.4 3v S331 motor I had lying around for the 2013 Mustang project. The motor has ported heads done by me which took a good long while to get just right on each runner. The heads have Manley single lock stock sized intake valves with larger 38.5 exhaust valves. The bottom end will run a 3.572 bore with Manley flat top pistons with upgraded pins. Rods are H-beam Manley with the ARP 2000 bolts as well as the head studs, mains, ad side bolts. I was planning on running a new 5.8L trinity block/crank I have but didn't want to waste it on this project. Instead I stuck with the Iron 5.4 which isn't hard to find if issues arise down the road. Block is decked .06 to bring compression up slightly from 9.95 to around 10.2 which is where I wanted to be. Motor is just about assembled and we are just waiting on the last bearings for the mains & rods. Now originally I was going to run the Saleen series 6 2.3L blower but got a little crazy and bought a 3.2LC Kenne bell. Now with the 5.4 3V there is no intake manifolds really to mount a blower like this but my Roush M112 I had on the Expedition uses a similar base as a lighting. So I figured why not grab a 3.2 for a lightinng and build it around the similar Roush 5.4 3V platform. This is where you really have to start getting creative with what you got to do to make it all work. First thing fist the lightings M112 has a shorter snout than a Roush unit this can be easily addressed with a kenne bell snout swap. Next problem is the alternator the intake manifold o a lighting sits up alot higher than the short runner Roush unit. This will be mended by getting a custom bracket made or a off the shelf edelbrock 5.4 3v alternator bracket which relocates the alternator to the lower driver side of the engine where the power steering unit sits. Since this is going in a 2013 mustang with EPS the power steering pump will no longer be used. I did a similar change on my 08 Expedition where I deleted the power steering system and now run a 2016 Navigator rack with drive modes. I'm still working on the fie details of the swap but I figured I get a post started on it and you guys can observe the obstacles I have to deal with when doing the engine / supercharger swap in this S197 mustang.
Here are some pics of the 3.2 on the Roush intake manifold. Next step is to build the rear entry system not sure if I'm going to go 168MM Kenne Bell, Twin 90mm Ford racing, or my own designed big gun system.
