HELP with exhaust popping.

since i did my cmdp and x pipe i have been getting some popping noice from the exhaust when decelarating from about 50mph.i spoke with some people and said that it was normal in this cars specially with the xpipe on.now yesterday started doing it again except it was really loud this time it sounded like a freaking srt4.
is there any way to reduce the popping noice or is everyone else going through this.

Are you at a high rpm and letting off when it pops? Its the x pipe thats doing it now that you have no cats on it << assuming its an o/r x

yes its an o/r x and the rpms are about 2000.

I have delete plates and an off-road x pipe and its never "popped"..Who tuned your car?

It's the engine brake feature on our cars, most likely...it's more noticeable with aftermarket exhaust.

brenspeed tuned it.it dosent do it all the time either and i have notice is only when i drive steady at 50 mph for a couple of minutes and then let go of the gas that it does it.

Yeah, that sounds like it. If you have a manual transmission and downshift @ 50MPH or so, the engine will brake and you can feel the car decelerate considerably.

yea my srt-4 with no cats pops.. i'll see if mustang does it when I remove cats.. I'm sure it will.. i was always told cars pop without cat to burn off excess fuel

same sounds with mine. I just expected it. I didn't think anything was wrong and I think you're ok as well.

thank you all im glad im not alone on this.i expected it to pop a little but today in the morning on the way to work it did it so loud i thought i had bombs going off under the car.

BUT I will say, mine is a reasonable noise. Not terribly loud. I know also that our computer shuts fuel off on decel. Perhaps your tune is off ?? Can you contact your tuner with your concerns and post back?

Most popping noises from the exhaust are due to an exhaust leak. Air being siphoned into the exhaust combines with unburnt fuel on decelleration. The air leak is usually at the head/header flange. This mixture travels down into the collector where it's the hottest and ignites there causing a popping noise.

BUT I will say, mine is a reasonable noise. Not terribly loud. I know also that our computer shuts fuel off on decel. Perhaps your tune is off ?? Can you contact your tuner with your concerns and post back?

i had allready done that and they said is because im putting more air in the engine,at the same time i remove the cats so that extra air is coming out through the exhaust with less restriction so itll cause it to have some back fires.

i have this problem when ever my car is cold then it warms up and my exhaust expands and i think it stops my leak. i was under my car about 5 min ago trying to fix the small leak but i couldn't get it fixed. i know where the leak is cuz i felt all the points where it connects and i could feel the exaust comeing out. but it is as tigh as i can get it and it is still there any ideas

Popping noises in the exhaust are probably the most difficult to diagnose. Exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, running lean, incorrect heat range of the spark plug can all cause popping in the exhaust. Tops on the list is an exhaust leak. You could have a very minor leak that siphons the most air at that speed. Will it do it in the next lowest gear at the same RPM you were at doing 50 MPH.

i havent try to do it in other gears since my car is automatic.the funny thing is it does it when it wants to not all the time.maybe is the spark plugs im using,i have brisk 1 step colder plugs gap to 35.by the way they are new too,they went in with the cmdp.
