Ok, I purchased a new m-4001-svt373 axle. I am trying to figure out how to install this upper bushing(panhand brace). The bushing kit I purchased from late model restoration has too much play and doesn't have a metal sleave around it. Its part number is a53-01-05 My old rear end has the metal sleave. Help

Is your new bushing poly? You'll likely have to heat up/press out the old rubber bushing from the sleeve, then press in the new poly bushing into the old sleeve. This is assuming the sleeve is still pressed into the housing.

If that makes sense.

Did you new housing come with a bushing installed? If not, you'll need a Ford part number BR3Z-5A638-B. That's a bushing and sleeve. You can then run it as is, or press the rubber part out and use the poly bushing you have (if that's what you have).

Thank you. Yup my old sleave in my factory 8.8 is junk so I can't use it. Next question is how can I get the new factory bushing with sleave installed in my new axle without beating on it? Do they make a tool to purchase?

I've always just beat them in. I replaced the bushing/sleeve on my '05 about a year ago. I used a big dead-blow hammer. There may be a specific tool, but I've never seen it or used it.

Yep, that needs to be pressed into the OEM metal sleeve.

The best way to get the rubber bushing out of the sleeve is to heat it up with Heat Gun or butane torch. Just heat around the out side of the sleeve and the bushing will fall right out, then clean inside sleeve, Use lots of poly greese. You should be able to push it in by hand.

My problem in this case was I was starting all new without a sleave to work with and the bushing I had purchased I was under the impression that was all I needed thus the confusion and this post. I tried to remove the old bushing/sleave out of my factory rear end by beating on the smaller end with a large hammer and socket and all that resulted in was mushrooming of the sleave. I ordered part number BR3Z-5A638-B because it comes complete with a new metal sleave and bushing. My main concern right now is the installation of the new sleave/bushing without doing the same thing as I did to my old bushing. On my factory rear end that sleave was in there so tight that it made me wonder if it wasn't installed with a large press at the factory.

When we installed the same rear as you are now we got a new stock sleeve/bushing from Ford and with some WD40 it went in nicely (with some hammering), got it within the same measured location/orientation as the stock one was.

It really does go in quite easily. Heat the housing up a little in that area, and with a couple smacks with a good size deadblow hammer (plastic), it's in place.

I was able to get my old bushing out with a flathead and a hammer. Gentle taps around the rim did the trick for me

Ok, for anyone who comes across this threading in the same situation I was in, here is how I fixed my problem. I put the bushing with sleeve in the freezer over night. I heated the housing, used a c press with 2 large deep well sockets and just slowly pressed the bushing into place with little effort. Thanks for all the help guys.

Did you get the bushing assembly in to the proper depth? See attached to get the right specs.
