Well, I got bit by something on the road today.

Heavy and hard enough to dent the seam of the hood.

Any pro body shop guys have an opinion on repairing or replacing the hood?

I thought it was aluminum? I have the common problem of paint not sticking to the underside. The paint on the topside was not terrible, although it took a beating Virginia from sand and gravel.

I've seen PDR guys work miracles, but that could be tricky because of the corner and that the hood is double layered in that spot (they can't just knock it out from the backside)

I have only seen PDR work on clean dents where the paint is still intact but you never know…

Dang, what a nasty bite in a terrible location too. I wonder how much a shop would charge to repair vs trying to find an used hood.

I always seem to get dings right on hard corners which makes PDR next to impossible.

With it also needing paint work regardless, I’m looking at some aftermarket hoods to make it worthwhile.

How is Cervinis quality and shipping times these days?

Yeah that's a good point about actually needing painf (duh )

Wonder if a body shop could tack weld those little tags and pull it out (dunno about aluminum)

Spoke to a local body shop and they are going to attempt to mold the stock hood back into shape. They weren’t excited on the thought of an aftermarket fiberglass hood due to too many fitment issues in the past so we will see where it goes!

Will post pics when it’s done (scheduled about a month from now).

Hood repair finished this week. I think it turned out great for being the same hood.

Painter said it should be good to hand wash since it was baked in 140 degrees (car is filthy from sitting out in the rain) but anyone have recommendations on how long I should wait before washing?

As long as the car wash soap is free of wax and silicone you should be fine to wash now. Definitely no Wax or silicone anything for 6 weeks so the paint can out-gas.

You can check bottles for wording like "paint shop safe". I think I used the Meguiars purple soap after I got mine painted

if its 2k lacquered then its good to wash with a soft non acidic formula, as said in post above don't seal the paint with polish or ceramic coating before the solvents have evaporated.
