I was tired of paying High Powder Coating prices, so I decided to buy a kit and do it myself....

I also hate using Caliper Paint, it does not last long and looks like crap after a year.

So I picked up a set of takeoff Calipers, cleaned them up, Dusted and Baked them...

What do you think of my first attempt.

Looks good, great job..

I agree, the damn caliper paint is for shit. Tired of touching my up every so often. So.... some nice new brakes on the way.

Looks great.
Could be little more glossy though but thats just me.

No, Your right, I need to perfect the time to bake, the longer it cooks it looses some gloss.

The Aluminum heats different than Steel so I need to work that out.
20 Min may have been too long for the Caliper but not for the mounting bracket, it looked like it had more gloss.

I have powder coated several more items around the house and a few more car parts.....

It all started when I had my Valve covers done...
the job was ok, lots of blemishes but the worst part, $200.00

i'm doing the same thing. guy on my local forum is selling the gun, some powder, an oven, and a small media blast cabinet for 150.

pretty sure i'm going to smooth out the calipers and brackets first.

Looks pretty good for a beginner! I'd be powder coating the hell out of some stuff if I had a spare oven to use to bake the parts.

How much was the kit?

Go to Eastwood.com they start at 79.00, you can get a starter kit for 199.00

I picked up an Oven at the Dump. the Glass Top was broken so I replaced it with some wood and a
sheet of galvanized steel and created a work surface. The Oven was free..

Do not use an Oven that you cook Food in, it will never taste right afterwords.

I think the best advice I got from a Local Powder Coat Guy was to be sure the item you are coating
is clean, do all your work on the Prep side and the coat will be easy and look great.

I really enjoy powder coating over paint, the powder flows very well, you can see every detail, even the numbers eched into the caliper.
From start to finish .. 1 hour where paint is 24 hours.

I am dusting some wheels and engine brackets for a friend at work, he has a 1969 mustang he is restoring. he just picked up the powder so hope to gave em in the oven monday or tuesday. He is going to Carlisle next week to pickup some valve covers so I am going to try my hand at two tone...
