So I was thinking the other day. I called my insurance (USAA) to ask about upping the coverage to include all the parts I have added, and they started asking about the intention of the parts I added. I said it was a show car, and the story goes further on that, but I don't want to get too into that part of the story. Regardless, the gist is, USAA doesnt cover against organized racing events. So my question is, what insurance would cover the car if I crashed at the track?

I don't know about coverage at the track but I tried to up the coverage on my mustang and Country Companies told me they can't do that. I checked a few other places and was told the same thing. I was told to save all reciepts and they would do what they could lol.

About ZERO! Cause im sure somewhere in your insurance paper work it say that it will not be covered if used in an off road manner (ie drag race, road race, etc...)

There are some that will not cover you if you are using your car, truck, suv etc for work purpose to.

I too have USAA and when I told them about the mods, they told me not to worry about recipts. They were more concerned about pictures of things that were on the car. I already have pretty high coverages as is, but they basically said that they would give me a fair value for the parts (translation: shit).

Now, we didn't talk about drag racing, but I don't think they'd cover that, which kinda sucks.

I wonder if a person were to crash at the track, and then have it picked up by a tow truck and just say to the insurance agency that it happened on a road. Would this be considered fraud if you were to get caught?

I am sure it would be. I called Progressive and they will let you cover modifications to the car, but I didnt ask any further then that.

Lying about an accident in order to have a non covered accident covered? Yeah...I think you could call that "fraud"

I've heard of people wrecking at HPDE's (road courses), being towed to repair shops, filing a claim and stating it happened on private property rather than public roadways. While technically correct..not exactly honest, and expect to be dropped from your insurance company rather quickly if they play along. Plus it's likely every insurance has a "competition clause" where everything is void if you're being timed and/or going up against another car (so drag racing or even T&T would void your policy).

There's the old saying, "Don't take anything to the track you can't afford to leave there."

I dont know too many people who can comfortably afford a Ferrari but drive a new mustang. If they have a lot of money but are cheap they drive a cheaper car. Otherwise most people drive at the edge of their financial means (and in some cases beyond).

this is part of a email i received from my ins. agent ...... ( this is state farm btw ) , but as said above no insurance as far as i know actually covers the car on a strip , they do have some who cover in in the pits ect. but not going down the track

With regards to the added equipment to Beau's car, if they were to be stolen, totaled out in a claim, they will be covered as long as you can show proof of purchase, so make sure you keep all your receipts and I'd take a photo of the vehicle with the added items on them to keep with the receipts.

One of USAA's main offices is here in San Antonio (huge buildings) and across the strip there's a body shop 90% of its customers are usaa, and thats where my car is currently getting a fender bender fixed. There's also a new GTO in there with a twin turbos set up getting some work done from a very bad accident, and usaa will be covering the cost of his true forged wheels, carbon fiber hood and panels that will need to be replaced.I guess if it was in the car it'll be getting put back on the car.

Hey Mods,

Is there a private members only section we can move this thread to? It kind of dawned on me, there is a lot of personal information in it.

There's nothing THAT personal here..just screen names and who their insurance company is and maybe their location in the profile. If people are worried about what they've said they can edit the post and make it more generic..

I'm in a different country and in my province all we have is one public insurance company (socialism!!!). They won't cover any racing, so if you crash, you'll own a expensive pile of sheet metal. In fact, last year at an auto x event, a guy crashed his BMW into a concrete planter and totalled it. Fortunately for him, club members gave him some sympathy financial aid. I'd guess he was still out at least $10K on the loss of the car. Memories of the accident definately make it hard for me to push to 10/10ths at times.
